Small skinny-fat woman interested in weight lifting

Hello. I am new to the site. I joined in December, but didn't come back after a "false-start" lifestyle change. Now, I am back after 7 weeks of eating healthier, not drinking alcohol so much, and doing strength training at home.
I just wanted to kind of put myself out there to people who might be like me. I am 5'1'' and now weigh 113.4 pounds. I started at 120 pounds January 13th. I have been eating around 12-1400 calories, except for sometimes when I have a "cheat meal", I guess you would say. I do not usually have a cheat meal going over my calories a lot unless I feel I could use the energy to workout better. I like to do squats and deadlifts and just general mat moves at home. I have been using my body weight and a 10 pound kettle ball. For most of my arm moves, I use 3 pound weights. Now that I'm getting stronger, I would like to purchase some heavier weights and maybe get more strict on my workouts (slowly).
Sorry for the long post, but have any of you girls conquered your skinny-fatness with weight lifting? I walk to classes a lot and around town, but do not do very much cardio (and I am not a huge fan). But I do love to do the workouts I have made at home, and find them easy to stick with 3-5 days a week.

I run almost 6x a week...and lift weights. You said that you don't like cardio but you will lose the jiggle and tone up if you utilize a mix of cardio and weight training. I am 5'4 and 122.

Hiya! I've been trying to get more fit through exercise (both lifting and cardio) too since mid-January while keeping diet mostly stable (1700-ish a day, bumped up to 1900 to have more energy lately) and have definitely looked more 'toned' since I started. Looking/feeling stronger, scale stays around 125.

All the heavy lifting has been done at a gym since the equipment is expensive and you progress quickly through them, but I've had pretty good results doing the circuit style training with light (3-5lb weights) and a DVD. Lots of Jillian Michaels are free on youtube if you want to try them. Might also consider pullups/pushups/dips/other bodyweight exercises that are free!
  • I guess what it boils down to is what you will do. I love to run, so I run. I've been lifting weights to make my runs more benefical and I've enjoyed the results I've seen. I weight training I would recommend something loike this: http://www.fitsugar.com/Most-Effective-Strength-Training-Exercises-28394198.

I'm built similarly to you and also eat between 1300-1500 calories a day. I'm focusing on weight lifting to tone up, ever since i've heard the term skinny fat I knew that was me!!! I want to be fit instead!!! 'm following Jamie Eason's livefit program and for the whole first four weeks there was no cardio!! I was really nervous about that idea but I ended up losing a couple pounds and my arms and legs look better. I'm on the second phase that has cardio and weights and I'm excited to see more progress. I would love to have friends with similar goals =)

I run for warm up and cool down and lift weights in between. Yummy dose of both cardio and strength training.

how closely did you follow the diet plan listed for the program? im just curious because I've looked at it and thought about starting the weight training portion and sticking to the diet i eat already (i get a decent amount of protein and stuff already daily) but didn't know if that factored into your results.

I'm close, almost 5'2 and 100 pounds. I've done yoga/bodyweight exercise for a while. Add me if you'd like. :)

*editing to add that I do eat quite a bit. I don't watch calories, micros usually.

I've been "fit" on and off (due to having kids here and there and a miscarriage). I've had excellent results doing mostly moderately heavy weight training with minimal cardio. I just started back up again. I have a 7month old baby. I'm def skinny-fat right now but aiming to change that by doing what I know best

ETA: 5'2" 123lbs (literally just started working out/ logging food again)

I don't follow the plan exactly because I'm not a big meat eater. I try to eat clean and healthy and focus on protein! I have had some cheat meals as well but I think my results are still good. I also make sure to take a calcium and fish oil supplement every day like she recommends.
