Sugar Goal: Impossible To Meet

1 banana and 1/4 cup of raisins later and I've gone over my daily sugar goal of 39 Grams. It isn't even lunch yet! Is there anyone out there that consistently bests their daily sugar goal?

If so, show me how and sprinkle some of that sugar-free pixie dust on me ;)

Thanks,

Robert

I go over everyday! I'm in the same boat and don't know how to get out. I have a goal of 35 and over by 9 already, after lunch. Ugh!

I believe you'll find that most people on MFP don't worry so much about sugar from fruit or dairy (as long as you are eating reasonable amounts -- 2-3 servings of fruit and 2-3 servings of dairy). It's the refined sugars (white table sugar, brown sugar, sugar in cookies and candy, etc.) that you really need to worry about.
  • If we're supposed to have 2-3 servings of fruit every day, aren't the Sugar goals incorrect? I'm not complaining as much as I want to know where the Sugar Goal information comes from.

I think I'll remove the Sugar category. it's a psychological thing; I don't want that thing looking at me every time I go on. It's more encouraging to meet ALL goals vs. meet all goals but fail Sugar.

    Yeah. . .that's what I'll do!

From what I've learned on here, there is natural sugar and added sugar. That sugar column should really be for added sugar, but there isn't a way to split it up from natural sugar. So the sugar you get from a banana or any other fruits or veggies is fine and good for you. If it's added sugar like in baked goods (anything with white or brown sugar really), then it's something you should limit. Otherwise, don't worry if you're going over your sugar allotment with fruits. I took that column away and tracked my sodium instead. That's definitely a number you want to be paying attention to.

I think 00trayn has it right, it's more to track added sugar, but there no easy way to separate natural and added sugars.

I don't track sugar, myself, for this very reason.

Also... I LOVE your icon. "It's a trap!" I am a HUGE Star Wars nerd.
  • the sugar in fruit comes packed in fibre, this allows it to be released more slowly into your system and makes it a good provider of energy over a longer period of time, the refined/added sugars, in pop, for example, do not need to be broken down and flood your body with a sudden explosion of energy, too much too quickly, fruit is awesome for you, added and refined sugars not so much
  • Thanks Mande!

I was thinking of using a stranger-looking Star Wars creature (like one of the Oboe playing creatures in the bar scene) but I didn't want to be too obscure for people to understand.

If I remember correctly, they're called "Bith". Yeah... it's sad that I know that.
