Has a doctor told you that you need B-12? You should check with a doctor is you have folic acid or iron deficiency, liver or kidney diseases, or are receiving treatment that affects the bone marrow. I doubt you need supplementation. The recommended allowance is 2 to 3 micrograms. However, there are few serious side effects of taking more. Your body just eliminates all the extra in the urine. It can interact with many drugs (proton pump inhibitors, hormonal contraception such as "the pill", certain diabetes drugs, and antibiotics). There are a number of side effects to watch out for as well: weight gain, loose stools, itching and rashes, vision damage due to the trace amounts of cyanide in most B-12 supplements, swelling, headache, and numbness.

If you plan on taking B-12, I would encourage you to also take B-6 and B-9 as it will be most effective that way. If you have any doubts, please talk to a doctor.

I agree with ligytha that I would talk to my doctor before taking it.:flowerforyou: Thanks ligytha I don't take it except if it's in my multivitamin, but I learned a lot from your post. Great knowledge to pass on to others.
