Adding exercise/maintaining my size--help

I dropped from a size 10/12 to a 4 by calorie counting and light exercise only. In the long run, I dont think my body would maintain itself at anything smaller than a 4. I am very curvy and I dont want to lose those curves by getting too tiny but I want to improve my body condition.
I thought my body would level out at a 6 and I was tired of looking like a slob in ill-fitting clothes. I spent about $700 on a new wardrobe over the course of 4 months for everything from underwear to new coats. It usually took 10-15lbs weight loss for me to drop a whole size and since I only had 6 lbs until my goal and my size 6's were a little snug, I figured id still be a 6 in the end. I lost 4 lbs and dropped to a size 4! I only have 2 more lbs to lose but here is my new fear---I plan to start exercising to tone up. I do not want to lose anything else other than 2lbs but I am scared if I start toning up I may drop another size. Do you think that will happen? Is it possible for me to maintain my size with exercise? I dont even care if toning up puts me back in a size 6 afterall, I still have the clothes I just dont want to drop to a size 2.
Its expensive losing weight and I need clothes again. I went on ebay and bought 3 pairs of dress pants in a size 4 for a total of $60, which is better than $60 for one pair in the mall.
If it werent for the fact that constantly changing body shape means spending money on more clothes I wouldnt even care what the number on the scale said because I was happy at a size 6. I didnt have a goal to be a certain size. 6 felt good. 4 feels good. What doesnt feel good is how soft I am. I want to tone up. I plan on adding cardio and strength training to do this. Any advice on how to maintain my weight or size yet increase my exercise levels? Actually, I dont even care if the scale fluctuates a bit, I am more concerned about maintaing my size. Again, I don't want to lose my curves by losing too much weight. I just want to improve my body condition.

Toning doesn't really happy so I'm guessing you mean lifting weights. IF that's the case, if you do build muscle properly you will probably go down a size again.
You can either get new clothes once you get the body you are aiming for or, if you were happy where you were and don't want to spend more money on clothes, gain a few lbs in a healthy manner so those clothes aren't big on you... or take them in. You can even make alternations yourself depending on the clothing.
Should you go down another size, underwear is relatively inexpensive to get. Coats you can wear when they are a bit big. Depending on the shirt you can still wear them (and they can be easy to take in). Depending on how much you spent on your pants it might be better to take them for alterations instead of getting new ones (unless you know someone handy with a sewing machine)0
