Discouraged by a Platypus

Ok, so not really a platypus but that would sure make my dilemma seem easier. I'm currently involved in a weight-loss competition that started Jan 1. It was awesome at first, and I lost the 10lbs I had gained since my wedding and over the holidays. Problem is I have now hit a plateau, or as I'm renaming it a platypus! I have been stuck at the same weight with little fluctuation for over a month. Sometimes I go up or down a lb but then low and behold every weigh in day I'm right back to that lovely same number. There's 3 weeks left in the competition and while I'd love and desperately need that first place prize of $500.00, I really just want to beat this weight goal. I've been trying for over a year now to reach my ultimate goal and I still have 20lbs to go. I've tried detoxes, not counting calories, and going stricter on food intake. I know I lack exercise and find it hard not do with my 18month old. I want to start a couch to 10k program which I would have to do my running early morning (5am) while my husband is getting ready for work. Problem there is I'm terrible at early morning. As this platypus sticks around longer and longer I'm finding myself getting discouraged and needing extra motivation, support, & someone to help keep me accountable. So I come to you my MFP world! HELP!

First off, love the platypus thing, can I steal it? Me and the platypus are best friends.
Second, hang in there and stick with it. I know for myself, weight seems to drop off me in "chunks" and when it seems hardest to stick with it, is when my body is getting ready to let go of another "chunk", if that makes sense. When you have a really tough day and seem extra hungry, if you resist you may find that the next day you drop some weight.
There is tons of advice about all kinds of strategies on this board, if you search for plateaus, so I won't rehash it here. The one thing that does really help me is to keep my protein above 100g a day, and my carbs below 100g a day, for my particular body that helps, and seems more important than calories for fat loss. But that is just me and may not be your thing.

The lower you go in carbs and sodium, the more water you will lose as well, so that helps you in term of competition/game play, but not long-term fat loss.

I can't work out early morning either, I put on DVDs and workout after the kids have gone to bed, that extra calorie burn may be just what you need.

    Good luck and keep going!!!!

I started using workout videos since I cannot go out because of the kids, so while they are playing I will squeeze a mini work out. I only have gotten as far as 15 min per day but it has shown some results (using the P-90 system).

i have the same problem with motivation i just recently began to walk/jog out doors after my husband heads to work, but getting into the mood takes some convincing or even jogging what seems to work for me is to think of how far i have come and what i have accomplished and where i want to be in the future that get's me in gear and i get my butt out there even in the cold weather

you have done good don't give up
