I feel i should be able to have a treat with dinner

I have a few people that go to my gym and are working out hard, but their diets are a train wreck and they complain about their lack of progress. I find it interesting they they each use the word "treat" in talking about their diet.. "i work hard in here and I just like to treat myself to a X". I guess they don't realize that if you treat with every meal, then its a habit and not a treat. The only being that I can think of that deserves a treat with every meal is a puppy.
One of the people in question actually said in a very casual way, while making excuses about not wanting to eat clean and how he loves to treat himself, that he was a diabetic. I have to admit that scares me, he is a nice guy but diabetes is not something to mess around with and the consequences can be tragic.
Bottom line. You can NOT out-train a bad diet.
I try to eat clean at 85-90% of meals and the remaining 10-15% i can basically eat what I want. I do not feel deprived because of any "off limits" foods, but I also realized i had to make fundamental changes in my relationship with food. My wife and I are both on this journey together and having her by my side is an absolute blessing. We enjoyed our life together when we were fat, and now are enjoying it even more as we become healthier every day.
