What ingredients are in a protein shake?

Quite a few people have mentioned a protein shake for a low fat snack. Can anyone tell me how to make one and the calories per serving. I like most fruit....

  • Protein shakes usually consist of protein powder and either water or milk to mix it. You can add fresh fruit to them if you want and even peanut butter.

MOST protein shakes are one of the two ingredients: Whey protein (derrived from milk proteins) or Soy. Whey proteins are great if you can tolerate them (I cannot they cause a TERRIBLE ear issue for me) or the soy for some people cause gas and gastrointestinal bloating. however, soy is good for women of a certain age (like me) because they contain psuedo estrogens which help pre-menopausall hormonal changes. :) Then, of course the minor ingredients, flavor, sweetner blah blah blah. I have used them before to make smoothies. They are yummy

I love having a protein shake as a post-workout meal. This week I've been making this:

1 cup almond milk (5x protein)
    1/3 cup flavored greek yogurt
    1 cup of frozen berries
1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder
a spoonful of ground flax seeds
    a spoonful of oat flour
    a few spinach leaves
    and water for desired thickness
sometimes I'll add half a ripe banana

What I end up with is a huge refreshing smoothie at only 300-ish calories, lots of protein and little fat, with oats to add in some whole grains and ground flax seeds for more fiber (I always add ground flax seeds in fruit-only smoothies as it helps me not get a sugar rush; my body takes it better). I'm planning on getting some pure whey when I get the chance.

Thanks, I would prefer to make my own from fresh ingredients. I have tried slim fast shakes before but want a filling snack rather than a meal replacement. :)
