I've heard that this is an amazing protein. Even better than turkey and chicken. I was curious if anyone has ever had it and where can I buy it if you have?

haha! The only ostrich I've eaten is Ostrim. It's kind of like beef stick and its a combo of ostrich and beef. The sell it at the Smoothie King where I am. It's actually pretty good... It had more protein than any of my other snacks yesterday did (7 grams in 40 calories).

I've never just eaten plain old ostrich though.

It is sOOO good. I lived in South Africa for a few months and they always have ostrich. It's funny, even though it looks like their meat would be like chicken, it is more like beef. I dont' ever see ostrich meat to buy at the stores or restaurants. I should look into that. I don't know about the protein in it, but I do know that it tastes really good, if you like steak, then you will like ostrich.
  • google ostrich meat or farm and your area, it's doubtful you'll find it in a local grocery store but there may be somebody raising them commercially near you. i've had ostrich lettuce wrap in a thai restaurant, not sure what the connection between thailand and ostriches is but it was really good

Ostrich is a low fat, low cholesterol meat. However, it is a red meat. It's not just the fats in standard (non-Kobe) beef that's not great for you, but the hemoglobin is what leads to the colon problems/cancers.

    Edit: Quote from Wikipedia:
Ostrich meat tastes similar to lean beef and is low in fat and cholesterol, as well as high in calcium, protein and iron.[38] Uncooked, it is dark red or cherry red, a little darker than beef.[38]

 Believe it or not, there is a chain resturaunt called Fuddrucker's and they serve Ostrich burgers. They are mighty tastey, no grainy or wild taste to it. I too have heard that the meat is leaner and better for you. Almost as healthy as Bison. Google 'Fuddrucker's' for a location near you.....and enjoy!

They're still around?! I used to love that place when I was younger. Bunch of 'em closed up where I live. Now I'll have to hunt one down to try the bird too.

Yes, they are! I live in the Atlanta area, but when I visit my sister in DC there is one not more that a mile away. I LOVE eating there. My sister is the one who started eating the Ostrich burgers and then I followed suit. My co-workers and friends know when I fly to DC, I am undoubtedly eat one every trip.

Yes, it is amazing, but keep in mind that I rejoice in eating quality red meat ;)

My cousin has some. I have seen them in the grocery store on occasion but I think you have to special order. I wanted to try one of his eggs but it kinda freaks me out.

Honestly the only place I saw it regularly was fuddruckers when they were still in business (big burger place). I'm sure you can find it with the help of the googles.
