Alcohol/Liquid calories!

Hiya!
Struggling with calories in alcohol... meant to be going out tonight with friends who will be drinking, but in order to drink I always think I have to save my calories by not eating, or only eating a bit beforehand... but I know this isn't good either! Gah anyone else had this dilemma? What's the best thing to drink? Or is the answer just to not drink at all? xx

I usually drink vodka and a diet mixer. I generally try to save a few exercise calories through the week if I know I am going out, otherwise I treat it as a normal day and if I go over ah well :)

Don't drink at all. Have some good tasting water like Pellegrino with lemon or something. Beer is one of the first things I cut out...look at my ticker...alcohol is poison in more ways than one.
  • Thanks for the advice! Sounds good! Just don't want to have been good all day and then ruin it with one night out haha! x

Think about this: carbs and protein each have 4 calories per gram, whereas fat has 9 calories per gram.... alcohol has a whopping 7 calories per gram! Drinking is almost as bad and binging on fatty food.... add to the fact that drinking impairs your judgement, so it's easy to lose control of how much you will drink and what you will eat afterwards (hence why McDonalds is filled with drunk people once the bar closes!)

That being said, I think it depends on how often you do it.... I now only drink maybe 3 times a year.... seriously, every 3 or 4 months I'm just like "I need to get drunk", I go out, party hard, feel like crap the next day, and I don't do it again for another 4 months.... in the long run, that's not going to be detrimental to my diet.... if it were every weekend, that would be different!

If you are not planning on going and doing this again for a long time, I say go for it, take one day and don't worry about calories, as long as you are sure you will be eating healthy again starting the next day.... over all one bad day won't ruin your progress!
  • This is what I'm thinking! I don't lose weight that easily anyway, so might just help x
  • Good advice! I'm not usually a big drinker at all, just when I go out obviously it's harder when your friends are/people buy you drinks haha!! Thanks for the advice!
