HI, IM GRANNY GWEN AND I CAME TO THIS SITE BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUCCESS STORIES TO TELL AND HAVE BEEN THERE AND HAVE DONE THAT! WHO BETTER TO ASK.

I WENT TO A POST CALLED: Too much cardio when strength training?

I JUST WENT TO THIS POST, AND IT LEFT ME WITH MORE QUESTIONS THEN IT ANSWERED.

MY QUESTION AND MY CONCERN IS ABOUT TONING, MUSCLE, AND EXCESS SKIN.

IM 63 YS OLD , I WAS 120# OVERWEIGHT WHEN I STARTED WITH MFP, IM LOSING AT A STUDY PACE, AND HAVE LOST 22# SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. I'M JUST GETTING TO A POINT WHERE I CAN NOW EXERCISE (DO TO AN ILLNESS AND I HAVE FIBRO) AND I WANT TO DO IT RIGHT. I KNOW YOUNGER, WOMEN /MEN CAN GET INTO SHAPE FASTER , AND DO MORE ENERGETIC EXERCISES, THEIR SKIN HAS MORE ELASTICITY AND COLLAGEN AND THERE HORMONES HAVEN'T GONE CRAZY.YET . WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR AN OLDER WOMEN BUT YOUNG AT HEART, DO FOR A WORKOUT PLAN TO TONE, STRAIGHTEN AND TIGHTEN LOSE SKIN? AND WHAT ABOUT THE LOSE SKIN DO YOU LIVE WITH IT? HAVE IT REMOVED? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ABOUT TONING, MUSCLE, AND EXCESS SKIN. ?

.MAY YOUR DAY BE FILLED WITH MANY BLESSINGS THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP

Welcome and great job so far!

Loose skin will definitely be an issue and unfortunately there really isn't much that can be done other than surgery. (or you could bulk up crazy with muscle but that would just be crazy!)

I'm no expert by any means, but I did loose 100+ lbs in a year. I would say for your situation to stick to low impact cardio (long walks are what I did!) and basic strength training. I really like Yoga for that. It looks like it isn't exercise but it really does work all your muscles, tones, and improves strength.

I would balance it out, maybe 3 days of 30-60 minute walks, then 2 days of Yoga or some other low impact, relaxing, strength training.

The road map to success is simple. Burn more calories than you eat. Pick healthy options which gives you a lot more food bulk thus you feel fuller longer. Document your progress, take pictures, videos, etc. You may not want to, but looking back will serve as great motivation.

Oh, and cheat once a week! All those foods that you couldn't eat during the week, pick one day and treat yourself. It keeps you mentally happy and also keeps your metabolism from adjusting to a fixed, lower caloric intake.

Good luck and keep us posted!

YOUR ADVICE IS SOUND. I HAVE JUST STARTED BACK EXERCISING , I DO DEEP BREATHING, MEDITATION, YOGA AND YOGA STRETCH, I ALSO DO REBOUNDING IN THE AM AND PM FOR MY LYMPH'S... IM DOING A STEPS PROGRAM WORKING MY WAY UP TO 10,000. AND STARTING TO DO SHOT WALKS, IF WE EVER HAVE WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER HERE IN OREGON . LOL

I WANT TO ADD SOME RESISTANCE ASAP , BUT IM TAKING ONE STEP AT A TIME AND ONE DAY AT A TIME.

IM STILL IN THE LOSING PROCESS HOWEVER I WANT TO TONE AS I GO ALONG.

I EAT OK 70-75 % OF THE TIME I EAT MOSTLY ORGANIC,VEGGIES AND FRUIT , RAW AND CLEAN, LEAN ORGANIC CHICKEN TURKEY AND FISH AND A LITTLE RED MEAT NOT MUCH. I EAT GLUTEN FREE AND MY ONLY DAIRY IS CHEESE, YOGURT, COTTAGE CHEESE, SOUR CREAM AND CREAM CHEESE IN SMALL AMOUNTS, I TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM PKG FOOD. NO WHITES, AND LIMIT MY NIGHT SHADES. BEFORE I WAS A PEPSI -HOLIC FOR 40 YRS. NOW I TREAT MYSELF TO ONE ON OCCASION BUT NOT OFTEN AND IM ONE OF THOSE WHO CAN SIP ON IT AND BE OK

I ALSO DETOX ON A REG BASES. MY CAL SAY I SHOULD EAT ABOUT 1590 CALORIES BUT I AVERAGE AROUND 12-1300 MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS I AM A NIGHT EATER SO I HAVE TO MAKE MYSELF SPREAD MY CALORIES OUT,
