I want to start working my way into doing the Atkins diet.
I know there are plenty of books out there but I want ideas from people that have or are doing it.
There are some issues..
I do not like hot dogs, and mostly sausages.
What do you like that is low in carb?

If you don't even know the basics and think that Atkins is about eating hot dogs and sausages, you REALLY need to educate yourself and in no way should you be delving into the low carb lifestyle without reading books.0

Totally agree with this. You need to educate yourself and set up a plan. Some people do best by going full in and others with gradual changes but definitely realize that it's a lifestyle change. There's a lot of different approaches to LC and like anything else, varies from person to person.
In regards to what I eat, it's pretty simple: meat/fish, lots of green veggies and fats in the form of butter, coconut and olive oil.0 -
I'm trying to reduce carbs, so I eat lots of eggs, chicken, fish, other lean meats. I've found buy cutting my carbs by about half (I figure most days I used to eat upwards of 200g) I've had success with weight loss. I think now I'm eating about 100-115g most days. You may want to consider a reduction rather than going hard core low carb.0

Just cut out processed foods and the rest should take care of itself. Eat lots of veggies, meat, and healthy fats like avocados, coconut, and grass fed butter.0

Jules.. you know you can msg me on FB. Ron and I are also on several low carb groups if you want to join to get some ideas, let me know. But I would suggest reading and remember, it's not just low carb, it's low carb/high fat. There are healthy fats out there that are essential in low carb. Fats help to keep you fuller, longer. Ron and I never feel deprived, in fact my dinner tonight was cheesy chicken-stuffed avocado.. 3g of carbs total and 47g of fat and 49g of protein. Very good ratio. We have TONS of recipes!0

Here's the misnomer that people quite frequently associate with "fad" or "silly" diets. If you are overweight, all the crap you've eaten all of your life is WHY. As with any change of eating habits, you CANNOT go back to eating the same crap that got you fat to begin with. It has to be a lifestyle change, period. You cannot expect to do a low carb diet, lose all the weight and then go back to eating the same crap as before. THIS is why people gain the weight back. NOT because of the way they lost the weight to begin with. Do your homework and don't judge people on their choices0

Perhaps educating yourself on how the body stores fat would help you understand what kinds of foods your body might be reacting to. Check out http://www.hulu.com/fathead. There is a really fascinating explanation of how our body stores and uses "sugar" to create fat. Good luck with your low carb journey. (There are lots of ways to LC besides Atkins, FYI.)0
