Greetings! After about 2-3 years of utilizing WW to manage my portion control I ultimately reached a plateau. I would track my points religiously only to weigh in EXACTLY the same weight for several months in a row. I started tracking with MFP and Fitbit last Wednesday and was down 3.6 lbs yesterday...so we will see where that goes.

Why tracking works for me? I have a horrible case of Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD, not to be confused with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, OCD). As a result I am stickler for things that all need to add up and/or be fair/balanced at the end of the day...my intake, my output, my checkbook, my gas mileage, the fonts I use in word/powerpoint files...you get the point.

What is my struggle? Portion control. I don't eat much junk, I really never have. I became a vegetarian at the age of 9 (30 now...eek) and have always been into sports and exercise. Track and tennis in HS, tennis in college, distance running and crossfit now. There are large portions of my life I have been very underweight because I have been able to consume enough to balance my activity level. Well, sometime while I was in medical school I lost that edge on my metabolism (a lot of medical students do...you eat what you can, when you can) and was at my heaviest (about 170lbs, 5'3") just prior to graduation. I joined the Army for financial assistance for medical school (and of course because the idea of serving my country was important and something I have always wanted to do). I was a reservist throughout school and entered onto active duty after graduation. Height/Weight standards and periodic physical fitness testing has kept me between 135-155lbs throughout my time on AD and I have linked this fairly large fluctuation to portion control. I began distance running a few years ago and noticed as I increased my weekly mileage, I needed to eat more so I wasn't hungry all of the time. Again, not junk, large amounts of fairly healthy stuff. The problem came when I began to taper my mileage, my portions didn't taper simultaneously. I have a husband who is 6'5" and an avid cyclist and needless to say, his nutritional requirements vary wildly from mine, but you wouldn't always know that from looking at our plates.

What do I have to offer? Well, in a word, I'm a shrink. I have also had the honor/pleasure of running a therapy support group for men and women in various stages of preparing/receiving/living after bariatric surgery. It was a great experience and I also learned quite a bit about my decade long struggle. I can be encouraging, I can brainstorm with you, or I can provide you with brutal, cognitive therapy based honesty.

I think that's all I've got for the moment.
