exercise at work

I've been keeping a set of 10lb hand weights at work and every so often I'll do a set of one exercise or another. Do I lose the benefit if I'm not doing sets consecutively or will I still see progress from this broken up way of fitting exercise in? I also take breaks to pace the hall and walk up and down stairs.

I've been doing this primarily because of a time crunch at home trying to fit in a chunk of time to exercise.

Thoughts? Am I just wasting my time?

Exercise is never a waste of time IMHO. It's sure beats doing NOTHING!
    Good job!

I would try to do at least the muscle group sets consecutively. For example, if you do bicep curls with them, do a full set then rest a minute and then do another set.

Im a switchboard operator and only get two ten minute breaks during the day, so I do 20 squats every hour to get moving and get my heart pumping. I can feel the burn! Any time you can fit in exercise is good. You can google office exercises if you want more ideas.

I've been thinking about keep some handweights at work, too. All I have are 3-lb ones, but that's better than nothing, I suppose. I also walk for exercise at work. I think it all counts. It may not get your heart rate up as much as if you were doing a bunch of sets at once, but it's way better than nothing!

Can I ask what you are trying to achieve? Is it just to burn some extra calories?

Honestly I'm trying to maintain my muscle and take off the last 10lbs. I try to fit in 2 or 3 30min workouts with weights at home. I use weights for those workouts that are 10 ,12, 15, or 20lbs depending on the exercise. Once I'm at goal or close to it I plan on switching to maintenance and try to build some additional muscle.

The end result...I want to be strong and firm and hopefully get enough muscle to burn a few more calories. I'm only 5'3" and I'm almost 39...and I love to eat. I'd love to hit goal and not have to eat like a bird to maintain it. I've never done the 1200calorie thing...and I don't want to ever have to! I'd rather build muscle and EAT.

In that case you might like to join this group and ask for some advice:

They are very knowledgeable and will give you some great advice. You may want to start lifting heavy now as you are so close to your goal - congrats btw - and start focusing on body recomposition :flowerforyou:

I'm in a similar position at 5'2 and 33, I've got about 20lbs to lose but I've just started New rules of lifting for women - I too want to maintain muscle while losing fat and not eat 1200cal doing it.
