My Fitness Pal Calories?

Okay, I weigh 109lbs and I'm 4ft 11in in height. My Fitness Pal has put me on 1200 calories to lose 1lb a week. I want to lose a few as I've put on some after pregnancy.

My mother weighs 14st and is 5ft 2in, and is also on 1200 calories to lose 2lbs a week.

Why do we have the same calories, I thought my mother would need more.

My BMR is 1307 calories!

Because your mom put in that she wants to lose 2 lbs per week which necessitates a 1000 calorie a day deficit. You put in one pound per week which is a 500 calorie per day deficit.

If you are sedentary, with a BMR of 1307, you would be set to 1068 calories per day to lose one pound per week. MFP will never recommend below 1200 calories (because getting in proper levels of nutrition is extremely difficult if not impossible for most people). If you are lightly active (work out 1-3 times per week or move around a good bit on a daily basis) you would lose a pound a week at 1297 calories. If you start working out more, (3-5 times per week for moderately active) you could lose a pound a week at 1525 calories per day.
  • That's understandable, thanks for that :)
I workout Monday to Friday (Jillian Michaels Ripped In 30).

By the sounds of it you don't have a lot to lose so your goal should be set at 0.5lbs. Your moms should be set lower as well. 2lbs per week is normally only for people who have over 75lbs to lose.

Even as a shorter person, 1200 is most likely far too low. It's best to go for slower losses so you can retain as much muscle mass as possible in the process of losing weight.
  • My mum is wanting to weigh 9st, her pre-pregnancy weight. So she wants to lose about 5st. I want to lose about 10lbs.

You should have your goal set at 0.5lbs per week. I would suggest your mother doesn't have her set at anything over 1.5lbs per week.

1200 is far too low and will increase the amount of muscle you lose along the way.

Better yet, both of you should net your BMR each day.
