30 day shred program

Does anyone know the amount of calories burned when doing Jillian Micheal's 30 day shred dvds? I do not own anything like fitbit...any help is appreciated. Also what about like converting strength exercises to calories burned. I do strength stuff almost everyday but not included in my calorie burn.

It would be hard to say since everyone would be different.

Can you get a HRM to see what your calories burned are? I can burn a few hundred with her video but tht may be more or less than what you would burn.

I have been logging it as Circuit Training, but I do not eat my calories back. I am ordering a HRM this week. That is really the only way to get an accurate reading.

according to mfp, 20 min of general circuti training is 286cals burned. Ive seen some post recorded with heart rate monitors and it is usually around the same.

I log it under "Circuit Training, General". I can't afford an HRM right now, so I go with that.

I agree with other posters - when I've done it I've logged it as cicuit training :)

It really depends on your weight and how hard you're pushing yourself. If you weigh more you're going to be burning more calories, if you're say, on that last 10lbs. it's going to be less.

I ordered a Gaiam Fitness Trainer 2.0 off amazon, its a heart rate monitor without a chest strap ( chest straps are supposedly more accurate) it was 21.99 plus shipping, I ordered this one because a friend on here recommended it and it was in my budget. I was using the Circuit Training General option in the exercise tab and it was telling me I burned about 240-260. When I started useing the heart rate monitor it shows between 130-155 calories depending on how high your heart rate is. I've seen other people use a monitor and reach over 300, it depends on your size and how hard your moving for your calorie burn.

    I am 5'3 and 150 pounds -- I burn between 220-275 depending on how hard I push

You can log in under "Circuit Traning General" or you can try using this chart - http://prevention.sph.sc.edu/tools/docs/documents_compendium.pdf
The formula is weight/2*8/60*20. This chart tells you what the Metabolic factor is for everything you do. So in this case...I believe the metabolic factor is 8.0 (It may be higher though). You want to get your weight in KG's and then multiple by the MF. Divide by 60 to get the number of calories burned per minute and then multiply by the number of minutes you did that exercise. It's pretty cool. I use it when I go jogging, do zumba, workout videos. I even used it when my husband and I shoveled the drivedway for about 2 hours. That was a nice burn : )

I also do not have a HRM. I log it under Circuit Training General and it gives me about 330 calories burned. Personally I think that's inflated. I have a daily calorie limit of 1300. I don't eat back my calories but if I have a little wiggle room I take it, for example: last night before bed I indulged in some light ice cream since I worked out and kept my calories in check all day. 1/2 cup is 130 calories. It put my daily intake at 1330 something but I still had a low net calories. I'm not a calorie Nazi by any means, I just try my best each day to stay within my calories and I've lost 26lbs so far, it's working I guess!

^ it is inflated.. I log under Curves Circuit Training which gives me a burn of 151 for a 22yo 172lb female. Where as for the same stats, Circuit training general says 250. I am now 23 and weigh less but that should show most of you that Circuit training general is grossly inflated. If it makes you feel better then log as general but I prefer to be under rather than over then ask why I'm not losing weight, etc,.

You're welcome! I don't have a HRM either so I hope this helps you! I couldn't imagine how much more I would have ate if I thought I burned an extra 100 per day.. probably would have affected my fat loss efforts

Wow just plugged it in and it gave me 222 instead of 323! I have also been logging it as 25 minutes instead of 28 because 28 minutes includes the warm up/cool down which I don't count, lol. I will definitely pass this info on! Thanks again.

I am 64 and weigh about 130 and range 150-175 calories for 30 DS. I do so much cardio that it takes a lot to get my heart rate up high enough to burn more than that for this DVD. Seems the Curves Circuit amounts are a lot closer to accurate than General Circuit.

All I know is it sure FEELS like it should be more than 150-175 calories. I love the 30 DS and it is making a huge difference in my strength. I've been able to increase my weights a lot (3 lb. to 7 lb.).

Log as 20 minutes of circuit training. Don't count the warm-up & cool down period.

I weigh 118 and burn an average of 165 for level 1, and I agree it feels like I burn a lot more. Lol.

Meh, I also logged 23-25 minutes the last two months that I did it and I'm definitely thinner now. When you warm up, you get the heart pumping and the blood flowing.. your body gets heated. Cool down, I never counted myself.
