Electro Magnetic Radiation and Heart Rate Monitors

Hi Everyone. I thought I'd buy a HRM, it seems like a good idea to know my heart rate and calories burned. BUT then I realized that they all transmit wirelessly from the chest strap to the wrist watch. I've been trying to reduce my wireless exposure since I have noticed some sensitivity to using a cell phone and computer. I've stopped using the wireless router in my home and instead I plug into the outlet that's wired to the modem directly. I use low radiation cell phones (the ratings for each phone can be found at CNET, just google SAR ratings and it comes up) or I buy special cases that are PROVEN by independent labs (plural) to actually disperse the EMF. ANYWHO, I'm disappointed that I can't find a reliable NON-wireless device. ANy ideas?:ohwell:

Yeah, I've never seen one. There are wrist strap ones, but they aren't terrific.

What kind of sensitivity? You're bombarded by all kinds of EMF day in and day out, everywhere you go. That sucks.

Plugging in to your modem directly and bypassing a router poses a serious security risk. The router acts as a firewall and offers protection, not exposing your IP address to the outside world. When you get a chance, get a CAT5 cable and connect your PC and router to the modem. This will not be wireless, obviously, but will let you use the router. Any other PCs you have will also need a CAT5 network cable to be connected to the router.

I was just concerned when I saw you bypassing your router... I personally have not tried very hard to limit my exposure to "rays" that we are getting bombarded with. But I don't use a cell phone very often... about 1 time per day, if that.

Actually the Cable "outlets" are connected to the router and the router is connected to the modem. However, we manually turned the wireless function off so we can only use internet when we are "plugged in".

I feel the heat from a high radiation cell phone and it makes my head "hurt". This happens also if I use my low radiation cell phone for more than a minute or so. My head is okay if I use my low radiation cell phone on speaker . . . but then my hand will hurt after awhile.

My hands/forearms hurt if I'm on my laptop too long.

When I'm in NYC at my temporary apt I know I'm bombarded day and night. But when I'm at my home in rural CT not so much, but still there I know :grumble:

I just don't want to end up being one of those people that are so sensitive they have to live in a lead lined home! I'm nowhere near that yet. Maybe I'm so sensitive to feeling ill effects because I'm an Energy Healer.

Anyway, it doesn't make sense to me to strap on a device to your chest that is giving off a wireless signal while you're trying to be heart healthy

Honestly, I dont mean to offend, but this is insane! I am a Radiologic Technologist and I do MRI's all day long exposing people to EMF and EMR the amount of radiation you get from these devices is negligible. Seriously, flying on an airplane exposes you to more and thats roughly the same amount you are exposed to by just living! Yep, I said it! Just being on the earth you are exposed to radiation...

Lots and lots of other things could kill you, I wouldnt worry about the 1/100th of a mrem of radiation your heart rate monitor is exposing you to!

Idk but wired earbuds with a mic work wonders for me!

I didn't realize they have earbuds with a mic too! So where is the phone when you use the buds? It sounds like with the ear buds I can put the phone on the table away from me while having my conversation. Thanks!

My daughter and her friends always use earbuds when talking on the phone so you don't hear the other end of the conversation but they still hold the phone to talk into it.

It may seem insane to you because using a cell phone or holding a cell phone doesn't make your head/ear hot and uncomfortable. When using a high emf phone, my head/ear have actually gotten so painful and uncomfortable during a conversation that I've been know to throw the phone away from me. The same discomfort happens on my low emf phone if it is straining to find a signal, because when your phone is straining the radiation increases.

The ill effects of wireless technology, cellular phone and computers is very well documented. Some countries are banning wireless in schools and are also creating wireless free zones.

Here's a great full length documentary on the topic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vb9R0x_0NQ&feature=youtu.be

Fantastic! Do you know what brand yours is? I'll have to look into these! What would I google search?

I wouldn't suggest earbuds. Speakers work because of electromagnetic fields. And you want that IN YOUR HEAD? What you need are acoustic earbuds (like in airplanes)

Ah okay that's right. I think the safe ones meant for cell phones are called air tubes or something like that.
