Heart Rate...

I wear my polar HRM when exercising. Today I was doing a kettlebell beginners course and my heart rate monitor was screaming at me the whole time because I was out of zone. I guess I'm not supposed to go higher than 162? Is this right? I was going at about 181, but then got scared and started slowing. What is truly a safe number? Clearly I'm obese, no point in trying to hide that fact. So do I go by the HRM as to where my target heart rate should be?

Also, if I'm supposed to keep it in target am I supposed to start moving slower? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of trying to burn these calories? I wanted to do more exercise mainly cardio today, but this happened yesterday doing cardio as well. So, I thought I would check with you guys to see what I should be doing? I don't want to end up making my heart explode because that would be bad. :)

Sitting here at my computer I just turned on my HRM to see what it was saying my current is at it's at 98. Is this really high? Should I see a doctor? I'm in a bit of a panic which I'm sure is making it higher than it should be, no?

i can set my own zone on my hrm. that beep is annoying. some people say not to go above 165. i honestly don't have any good answers on what's safe. i know the fitter i get the lower my zone seems to be.

edit: 98 is considered a normal heart rate. when i'm lifting my hr is anywhere from 130-150 when i'm doing intense cardio it's usually between the 140's and 160's. all depends what i'm doing.

I'm keeping the HRM on and I've not moved and it's still sitting at like 97. According to a chart supposedly I should be about 85 resting. Could really use some advice :)

Thanks Angieleighbyr, I am just scared because when I exercised before it never has gone this high. I'm only starting to exercise and try to lose weight again recently and the numbers are sending me into a full on panic.

my normal resting heart rate is around 70. but when i was at my heaviest my normal resting was around 105. 98 is honestly nothing to be concerned about.

don't let them scare you. like i said as you get more fit you'll see your heart rate start to come down a tad.

Thanks, I guess I should calm down. Maybe I should just make an appointment to see the doctor next week. I never go to the doctor so I'm sure a physical wouldn't hurt.

Even for my weight I've always been relatively healthy. No BP problems, no diabetes, no cholesterol problems...Other than female problems such as PCOS and Endometriosis I've been a very healthy girl, rarely needing to see a doctor.
