coffee & eat cleanly

Is it possible to be a true clean eater and still use creamer in my coffee? I use International Delight since it doesn't have HFCS or partially hydro oils. However, is it possible that I could still drink regular caff coffee with something else that will make it healthier and still have a flavor? I've also been putting a bit of Truvia (stevia) in it. Any advice? I could give it up, but I don't really want to. I try to only have 1-2 cups per day also. Should I have green tea instead with coffee only 1-2x/week?

Hmmm not sure, I use up 70 cal per serving ( my LARGE cup) with my French vanilla creamer in it but it is the only drink I will consume with calories. I love my coffee

I think it's ok to make one exception... if all you have is coffee with creamer.. and the rest of your diet is truly clean, I'm sure you won't gain weight from it. I say keep the coffee and consider it your daily treat!

that's deff not clean eating. plus "usually" only 1-2 cups per day. I am a coffee lover and I dont drink coffee anymore because of this. Eating clean is eating clean. The dairy you're putting in your coffee isn't clean. It has pasturized milk fat in it which isn't clean. Actually, most if not all of commercially raised dairy is not clean. Others will disagree, Ill explain it to them. This is where all of the chems the cows are given will go to rest and then we consume them when we eat or drink the product.

Do yourself a favor, get into drinking loose tea. Real loose tea, not bagged tea from the grocery store. Find a proper tea shop and start out with a green tea (Kyoto Cherry Rose Organic is a really nice one IMO) you can also get a nice black tea to help wean you into it (Earl Grey, Scottish Breakfast, etc etc). I dont even crave coffee anymore and I was a tim hortons fanatic... every day.

edit: I forgot to mention, my point with the real loose tea is you dont need milk to "hide" the taste (this is really why people put milk in their tea)
  • Is green tea probably a bit healthier? Yep. But coffee is clean (unless it's roasted with artificial flavors or something...) and DOES have health benefits (lower incidence of colon cancer and alzheimers among daily coffee drinkers). International delight however... is not. :indifferent: I put vanilla soymilk, almond milk, or if nothing else is on hand - organic cow milk in my coffee and add stevia, or raw sugar if I'm out of stevia - sugar only has 15 calories per teaspoon... You can mix up the flavors by adding cinnamon to the coffee grounds before you brew or mix in a little organic cocoa powder to your mug or try some peppermint extract, chocolate soymilk... the clean eating possibilities are endless! :drinker: So drink up coffee lover! But enjoy some green tea every now and then too.

That is a fantastic idea about the vanilla soy milk! We always have it in the house, I might just try that!

I use So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer in my coffee. It is both dairy and soy free. For 1 Tbsp, it is only 10 calories with no fat. I make decaf coffee, add one packet of stevia and 2 Tbsp of creamer.....only 20 cals!! I also drink loose leaf tea. But I love my coffee!!

I'm not going to give up dairy to eat cleanly, but I buy organic skim milk and put that in my coffee (which has also been grown organically). If I want a hint of flavor, I'll add a dusting of cinnamon on top of the grounds before I brew. Tea (no matter how good) just isn't a replacement for me. I'll drink it at other times during the day, but I'm just not going to give up coffee with a bit of milk. Maybe I'm not the cleanest of the clean, but I'm happy.

Coffee, black. That's about as "clean" as it gets, IMO.

Stupid question - how is (highly processed) soy milk more "clean" than whole, organic milk?
  • That Kyoto tea sounds fabulous!

Did I say soymilk was better than organic whole milk? It certainly has less calories  , but didn't mean to imply soymilk was superior. I just don't like cow milk.. never have. So I use mostly almond milk these days, a good amount of soymilk, and cow milk only when it's my only option.

I dont like the creamers, they may have removed the hydrogenated oils but they replace them with oils that are rancid upon production, and for me, if i don't have the items on the label in my pantry it doesn't get purchased.

You can flavor regular milk or half & half with a little sugar and vanilla extract or just enjoy the flavor of coffee with a little cream. Another good option is cocoa mixed into your coffee, great antioxidants, but not swiss miss, I mean real cocoa.
