Really?

People at the gym can be such *kitten*. So I USED to weigh 220...my body is scarred and isnt perfect. That fact does not make it ok to act like such an *kitten*.

That's really too bad. Your *kitten* sounds like they have their own fears and problems. Its hard to go to the gym anyway. When you feel heavy or not pretty. its even harder.

If I am in the gym and see someone that is obviously overweight or has other appearance issues I try to think how hard it must be to come to the gym and admire them. Not that I am perfect, but my weight is close to normal and my scars are coverable. There are probably people there inspired by you.

Ok. I have to fess up and say that your screen name caught my eye before your post did (I read. A lot.). Having read your post, though.... my area is playing a commercial that really struck a chord with me.

Scene: Women's locker room. One lady (normal, average looking) sitting on the bench.
Enter: 3 tanned/toned/makeup/cute outfit wearing women.
Woman 1 to Woman 2: Wow. Your body is so hot.
Woman 2 to Woman 3: Your hair is totally hot.
Woman 3 to Woman 1: Your outfit is really hot.
(Women randomly to each other): You are so hot. Your body is so hot. (and so on).
Woman 1: Let's go someplace really hot and be hot there too.

Scene cuts to the normal, average looking lady checking out a new gym full of normal, average looking people. The rest of the commercial is about going to a gym for the gym, not to look hot.

Anyway. You get the picture. I feel your pain. I've been to a couple of gyms that I eventually stopped going to b/c I obviously did not fit the "hot-ness" factor of the other gym members. I am surprised they let me have a gym membership, actually. lol. I was also lucky no one tried to cull me from the rest while I was there working out.

I belong to a local YMCA now. You still have your "hot bodies" but there also seems to be more a mix of regular people like me with jiggly parts and things that workout clothes just don't cover up. I just stagger away on the treadmill, jiggling and gasping, and no one bothers me.

Good luck to you in finding an *kitten*-free environment! Feel free to add me. Always nice to have friends.

Just remember that probably more than 50% of people go to gyms or health clubs to say that they go, but when it comes down to it they are there for the social aspect and are lying to themselves and others that they work out. It's like the idiots I see who are reading magazines on the treadmill or stationary bike. One can get a lot more out of exercises if proper form is adhered to, and there is also less chance of injury.

I too am not anywhere close to my ideal weight and there are others that go to the gym I go to who are in the same boat, and there are others who are further along down the road of their journey and they are yet others who have just started. But I have been very fortunate to not have run into such a**holes as you have. Everyone one seems to be sincerely friendly and the staff, well I only see the same guy all the time and he is a co-owner and a friend of a friends, and he is always ready to help everyone who walks through the door as a professional. I know everyone appreciates it.

It sounds like back to school bullying. The person is obviously very insecure and has to put other people down to make themselves feel better, maybe they also have body issues (their reason for being at the gym in the first place) and are jealous of you because yu can deal with your issues and they can't.

Just remember, you're at the gym for your own personal reasons. Don't let one sad person get to you.

And I'm also sure that bullying of any kind will not be tolerated in any gym. I'd be tempted to report them.
