Hi there, I have agreed to accompany my daughter who is a member of a Boy Scout Venture crew on her trek to the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch this July. In order to do that I have to shed at least 20 pounds to make the cut off weight limit. There is limit on how much you can weigh when you are hiking in this program. The trek chosen is 68 miles over 12 days, 35 pound pack, going from altitudes of 4500 feet up to 12,200 feet. I have been working on dropping the pounds and increasing the stamina. We went out for a shakedown hike last week and I was sucking wind. I will not give up, it is a win, win situation for me, I drop the weight get into better physical shape and enjoy a trek through the wilderness of New Mexico. I can hardly wait.
