Stiff knees...stretches?

So getting into the zone on my stepper has been really difficult because it hurts quite a bit right now, as my knees have been very stiff. Just standing in place for a few minutes makes them burn in a bad way, and stairs have been making me very lethargic. This is more likely than not a side effect of new medication, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for stretches or anything like that so I can get back into shape?

Thanks a lot!

  • Oh that's a toughie without knowing what your physical impairment is. If you have a medical issue with your knees, your dr should be giving you this advice. But I'll jump a little. I'm on a med that makes my joints very sore, and it's difficult to get right into a workout. I really have to get myself warmed up in a way that isn't jarring to my ankles, feet or knees. So basically, I know dynamic stretches, and I work them into a 5-10 minute dance routine before I work out. As I get warmed, I'll start a little jump rope and running in place. If I'm not warmed up enough, my ankles will hurt. So I give it a few more minutes with low impact.

Looking over your post again, I can see that standing is painful right now. =( I'm sorry. Can you ease back into things by walking for a few weeks?

I would suggest you partake in low impact cardio. Elipticals at the gym or bikes. Swimming is fantastic for reduced joint stress too. I don't know of any stretches though. Sorry.
