Is 20 pounds in 3 months realistic?

Hi. I've been on my fitness pal before and reached my goal of 110 pounds. I was so happy with myself, but over the winter i stoped logging in and got lazy and bimge ate. I gained 20 pounds, i can't even go anywhere without feeling fat or insecure about myself. The worst part is seeing my friends see me this way, its so embaressing. Well i am back in here hoping to lose the 20 pounds i gained by june, before my birthday party. As a reward, i desperately want to dye my hair blond ( I have always been a brunette) and get a new style, and look great for the party. Is losing 20 pounds in 3 months even possible?

I've done it before, but I gave up all wheat/gluten and grains to get there. The weight was basically water weight and bloat from inflammation.
  • Its more than realistic if you only suppose to lose no more than 2lbs a week in 3months you suppose to be at 24lbs, but if you drink the water ,exercise, and eat right you could go beyond maybe double what you are trying to lose

I don't think it's realistic. I guess it's possible but if you lost weight the healthy way it will probably take longer. Since you are small and don't have that much to lose you should probably aim for 1/2 to 1 pound a week. So that would be around a 12lb loss in 3 months. Don't rush it just get back to a healthy lifestyle and you will see results.

I think it's realistic! As long as you don't give up, and stay active (: Remember not to start too quickly, and to go on a diet or start working out gradually because if you get into your diet too quickly, you can but your body into a minor shock mode, and your metabolism can become slower, making it harder to lose weight and burn off calories. (: Good luck and feel free to add me if you want any extra help! (:

Sure it can be done. Not as easily as someone larger losing 20 lbs, but it can be done. However, at your size I would try to stick to 1 lb per week. That's not hard to do if you eat right and exercise and you don't want to set goals that are so difficult that you don't make them and get discouraged. If you lose more, great, so long as you lose you pound a week.

Yes, what he said. Think of it this way, you are too slender and healthy to lose fat that fast. Do it gradually the right way and this time you will keep it off for good. Best wishes.

It does not matter. Just work as hard as you can and do it the healthy and sustainable way. You will loose as much as you can. If it is not 20 pounds then at least it is more then you would have lost not trying.

It is achievable, but with lots of hard work and determination! I've lost 25 lbs in the last 2 months by drinking 2 protein shakes a day and a healthy meal in the evening. I workout 1.5 hrs a day (1 hr cardio, 30 min weights). You can do it!

To go along with this, If you keep your net at about 500 calories a day, you should be able to lose 1 lb. a week ! (:

    no.

NOT THIS!! Netting 500 calories is not a healthly way to lose weight. Sounds like an eating disorder just waiting to happen!!

    Could you achieve it? Yes.
Should you at your starting weight? Nah. Go for weights and tone up. You'll still see a loss of body fat, but you'll be toned instead of skinny fat.

Would it be a bad idea to start today if you knew you could only lose 10. Go for it. Get back on the wagon and do the healthy things you know work for you. Whatever you end up at -20, -10, -30. You will still be ahead of where you are today.

^ this. Netting 500 cal/day is a fast way to lower your metabolism and sabotage real health.

With your starting weight it's not very realistic.

6 lbs or so in 3 months is more like it with your current weight and your goal.

    Good luck to you!

At someone with your SW, it's not.

I think someone who weighs more (170s, 180s +) would be able to set that kind of goal. Even then, it may not go as planned.

I worry you went about it the wrong way and are claiming your methods are the RIGHT methods. Just because it worked for you, it doesn't mean one should go to drastic measures as you have. 2 shakes a day and a healthy dinner, PLUS working out that much? Unh huh.

i think they mean to say to decrease calories BY 500 a day, not TO 500 a day. to loose a lb a week u need a 500 calorie a day deficit through exercise and nutrition.

That's exactly what I thought when reading it. Seems drastic and unhealthy.

Totally; that is very reasonable. I usually shoot for 20lbs in one month and I have reached that goal more than once. However, I am heavier so weight comes off faster.

Why the rush? I would try to do it slowly with a balanced diet and exercise programme. The fact you gained it all back last time suggests you were not making maintainable changes?

I don't agree, I lost 85lbs in 6 months, 20lbs a month on some occasions. I work very hard, I work out almost 7 days a week sometimes 2-3 hours . I'm a low carb chic as well and people say that u cannot do this either and keep the weight off and I have. I look and feel better than ever. My doctors are extremely pleased with my results and they know & see nothing wrong with lifestyle. People do not push themselves for the desired results they want u see people on biggest loser and other shows losing major weight in short periods of time. Because they work very hard! Hard work will get u where u want to go; do what works best for u everyone has an opinion and everyone is a critic. What works for one may not work for another find what works for u, I did and I love my new life. Hake I plan to lose 15lbs before the end of the month.

:But like I said in my initial reply I was much heavier; you're much smaller if I were your size I wouldn't want to lose anymore weight so it may take longer for u. But for larger people 20lbs in 3 months is.very doable.

Not very realistic with your current starting weight. I'll echo everyone else make maintainable changes and keep them up.
