Sugar-free drink mix...?

I am almost 7 months pregnant and, up until the last couple of weeks, I've always drank plenty of water and I like it as long as it's cold. But in the last couple of weeks, I have not been able to drink as much PLAIN water. For some reason the taste of it literally makes me nauseous. I guess it's just a pregnancy thing. Idk. lol. But anyway.... I have been drinking a lot of Crystal Light and the Walmart brand of sugar-free drink mixes. What I'm wondering is... is it still just as good as plain water as far as hydration goes? And what do you all think about the artificial sweeteners? I have heard so many different things about it that I don't know what to believe. Is it really THAT bad? I just don't know what else to do because I have to stay hydrated but plain water makes me wanna puke : /

Yes - it's liquid so it's stil hydrating you. Don't worry about it!

Any fluid is hydrating. Even an apple is 85% water. Your call on how you feel about artificial sweeteners.

Good question. I just had a baby a few months ago so I can relate to your question. First, the hormones in your body can alter your taste buds or make things you enjoyed (like water) unpleasant. This happened to me randomly during all my pregnancies (in fact I would vomit during these episodes) but it is normal.
Of course water is good for you when you are pregnant for a multitude of reasons and it sounds like you are doing well. I did not use artificial sweeteners when I was pregnant because I just didnt know to much about how it affects the baby. I did see this article http://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/eating-well/week-31/sweetener.aspx and it appears to be safe. Also http://www.livestrong.com/article/148997-crystal-light-pregnancy/

My thing about Crystal light is this... It can be OK when used in moderation. For me, I have a sensitivity to aspartame so I avoid it. I love that Crystal light has come out with the liquid drops that contain Sucralose instead of aspartame. So far I am not getting the bad head ache’s I use to have with crystal light but the verdict is still out.

Just wanted to say that I love that you are using MFP while pregnant. I wish I knew about it when I was pregnant because this would have been a great tool to keep a track of what I was eating. I just lost all the baby weight thanks to MFP. Good luck and I hope you have a happy healthy baby.

Thank you and congrats on your new baby! I didn't know anything about the Crystal Light drops. I'll have to look for those!

Your body will take hydration from everything you eat and drink.

If you can't stomach much plain water than adding crystal light will be fine. Or drink more herbal teas... low sugar juices.... etc. Or try adding fruits to your water for flavour. Lemon and lime slices are great.. as are oranges. Crushed up strawberries, raspberries or blueberries are great as well.
