Strength training question

Options
I've focused mainly on cardio for my weight loss and I understand that strength training is important but I'm admittedly ignorant when it comes to 'how". Does anyone have any good resources for me? Direction where to start?

There's a book -- The New Rules of Lifting for Women. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

That is a link to my blog which has a very beginner weight lifting routine on it. All you need is a basic gym or a basic set of dumbbells and benches.

Weight training is really important, it's great you know that! You can ask me questions if my blog post is unclear. YouTube can be your friend as well as Google as long as you research weight lifting exercises enough to see the GOOD form and ignore the bad form.

    Hope this helps!

This and Stronglifts 5x5 is what I was going to recommend.

Ditto for the New Rules for Lifting.

Also, take a look at Stronglifts 5x5. It's an easy program!

I would second the New Rules of Lifting program. I am doing the men's version and love it. Have heard a lot of great things from the women's version too.

    This.

Also, go to www.stumptuous.com. Great fitness resource for women (actually for people).

I bought the New Rules for Lifting book-after suffering through the first 50 pages or so I got bored and the book has sat unopened for months. (I think I have ADD or something)

I can READ about all the exercises until my mind is numb but I am one of those people who have to SEE the exercise.

Google and You Tube are your friends here.

AND I downloaded some apps on my smart phone (Daily Ab workout, Daily Arm Work out, Daily Leg Workout, etc.) that I just follow along with-VERY easy for somebody like me to follow and it takes all of the guess work out of it!

lots of great suggestions - I see people suggested stronglifts 5x5 and NRL4W, which people seem to really like

If it were me and I were starting all over, I would do a modified starting strength (Rippetoe's program) with some accessory work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feY6vi6ORXo is a good example video. Really regardless of which template you pick just make sure and not to be scared of really pushing yourself - you will love the results so much!
