Im looking into joining a Crossfit gym. Please tell me about your experiences and how it has helped (or not). More detail the better!

Thank you!

I am absolutely in love with crossfit and have been since I first walked into my box about 3 months ago. I love the workouts (even if they are incredibly hard to finish) but more importantly I love the community. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and we all push each other to do our best. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner who can barely finish a workout or an athlete who is competing, everyone is treated the same. Plus the trainers are awesome and are always watching to make sure you're doing something correctly. I've seen awesome changes in my body as well. My legs and arms are getting really toned and I've lost fat. Plus, I just feel better overall. I have a lot more energy and I can't wait to go workout everyday.

I tried it for a while. Wasn't for me. I noticed no change in body composition and like most other people, when I went back to a traditional workout program, I was weaker. The thing I don't like about crossfit is that it includes a lot of high rep Olympic lifts. What will tend to happen is form will break down and cause injury. Often times they will include deadlifts along with the Olympic style lifts which is asking for disaster. Doing deads before an Olympic lift is like building a house with mud for a foundation.

I LOVE it! I did my on ramp course last July and now CF 2 x week and am looking to increase to 3 x week after July.
Make sure your box has good coaches though - they are there to teach, support and push you.
I have always been a lifter but since starting CF I have found a huge increase in my stamina, strength and ability. I still have lots to learn. Your coach should find out your goals and aid you in reaching those goals.
Yes, there are a lot of fast paced lifts but it's up to you to ensure your form is correct and that you work within your limits. Like any type of exercise you need to build up your strength and ability and work from there.
Oh yeah, did I mention I love the way my body is changing doing CF???
*note - plenty of haters - ignore them*
