Hey guys!! My first half marathon is this Saturday!! Yipppeeeee!!!!

Looking for advice about using energy thingies during the race. If you use them, what your favorites are, and how you use them during the race.

For some context I will be running the whole time but not very fast. Finishing under 2:30 is my goal and I am likely to achieve it (knock on wood!) Goos sort of gross me out so I am leaning towards the "bloc" things that look sort of like gummy bears. Whatever I get I will obviously test out this week just to make sure it doesn't make me hurl or something, but I'm a novice so I don't know great strategies for how/ when to take them. The race is early morning, I plan to have oatmeal with protein powder and fruit for breakfast.

ALL ADVICE VERY WELCOME!!

If you haven't used them during training, I wouldn't suggest trying them on race day. You don't want to surprise your body with anything, and you definitely don't want your body to surprise you with a reaction. you should be tapering and not doing a long run this week, so I would just go without. You should work out how often you need them during training.

If you still want to, I use one powergel tangerine every 6 miles (45 minutes) during a marathon. They taste awful, but I'm not in it for the culinary experience. For a half I would probably only take one at the start for the caffeine. Generally for a half, your own stores should be enough to get you through.

    Best of luck!
