Scientists Officially Link Processed Foods To Autoimmune Disease
"The modern diet of processed foods, takeaways and microwave meals could be to blame for a sharp increase in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, including alopecia, asthma and eczema."

That study is actually about salt. (if it is the one in the news today...)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21685022The amount of salt in our diet could be involved in driving our own immune systems to rebel against us, leading to diseases such as multiple sclerosis, early laboratory findings suggest.
Several teams of scientists have simultaneously published data in the journal Nature suggesting a link.
Salt may activate a part of the immune system that can target the body.
here is an earlier one from one of the same researchers. http://www.jimmunol.org/cgi/content/short/188/1_MeetingAbstracts/60.13?rss=1
and the current one in nature
http://www.nature.com/news/salt-linked-to-autoimmune-diseases-1.12555The incidence of autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes, has spiked in developed countries in recent decades. In three studies published today in Nature, researchers describe the molecular pathways that can lead to autoimmune disease1 and identify one possible culprit that has been right under our noses — and on our tables — the entire time: salt2, 3.
Note, they are not saying that moderate salt intake is bad... but that a high one is.0 -
:glasses: Salt doesn't cause autoimmune diseases. There is no known factor, and no known cure yet. However, my original autoimmune disease started after getting mono at age 19. Systemic (encompassing whole body) Sjogren's Syndrome was the first over 30 yrs ago..
I've never eaten very much salt; don't like it. Never had processed food as a kid. And I developed 4 autoimmune diseases so far. Other chronic diseases going on too.
I read the article and all articles like this, but based on my own experiences, it's not true.0 -

Most of the "studies" that suggest a link are cell-culture studies. These are notorious in immunology because individual cells do not represent:
A. The effects of the concentration of cells
B. The effects in relation to other cells of the immune system
C. How the cell actually operates within the human body including recieving signals from the CNS.
The animal stuff is weak at best.
Far more research needed but of course its exciting for the media to make a story0
