Hey guys,

I've been using the weight machines in the gym after doing cardio. How long should i spend on these? How many reps should i do? Will i turn bulky doing these? XD

You won't turn bulky! It all depends on your goals at the gym on what you should be doing. I have just started using a few of the machines, just to get the feel for weight. I'm using the chest press, seated row and the leg press. All 3 sets with 15,12,10 reps at different weights. The weight will depend on the person. I guess i'm more or less at the lighter weight stage but we all gotta start somewhere! I also do some dumbell work and lunges with dumbells and them some planks and russian twists at the end for abs. Gradually I will likely move away from the machines or at least most of them. I don't have a lot of weight to lose so i'm not focused on the scale but more on body fat and inches. I'm currently not doing any cardio except walking to and from my work. You could ask one of the workers in your gym how to use them etc as they can be quite daunting to look at if, like me, you are new to the weights area of the gym. I personally got a booking of personal trainer sessions to help me as i wasn;t sure but I understand it can be costly. I really prefer to do resistance work to anything else.

Thanks for the reply. It's scarey when you think you will get bulky as i feel masculine lifting the weights on the arm machines ect haha! I'll stick with it for now then i'll see if my boyfriend will do some free lifting with me but he's as shy as i am at the gym haha.

even better than new rules of lifting : starting strength by mark rippetoe or strong lifts 5*5

and no you wont get bulky unless you're taking steroids

if you are eating in a deficit then you will not get "bulky"....

Also, there is nothing wrong with being athletic...I find it attractive but that is just me...

If you are working in 8-10 rep range with moderately heavy weights you will be fine..

Underneath, they have more video for all the weight machines so you can learn proper form.
