Soy v. Whey

I am currently on Visales shakes, one a day for breakfast, but I need to move on to something more in my price range. Any thoughts on the difference between Soy protien and whey protein? Any products comparable to Visales?

I would avoid soy if you can help it. It doesn't always have good effects on your digestion. I always use plant based proteins. I use Plantfusion and Vega whole food shakes.

I have looked into Visalus is has a lot of negative press by the sounds of things.

Meal replacement shakes should not be relied on. The whole point in weight loss is to teach yourself to make the right food choices. Just drinking shakes is not sustainable.

I do drink shakes every now and again for breakfasts but not every day, it's too expensive. Try cutting back to have them every other day to keep the cost down or take a look at Plantfusion/Vega shakes. They are expesive too but have a much better mix of nutrients. x

Thank you for replying. I thought that Soy was plant based? However, after reading your comment I did some research and found that unfermented soy can cause NUMEROUS health risks (which is what most shakes are made of) , but the fermened kind is ok. I wonder if I coudln't use tofu and fruit for a shake? Seems like the consistency would be ok. (?)

I agree with you 100% that it is a lifestyle change and I should't rely on shakes all the time, but they are nice for breakfast when your'e running out the door. I'm trying tofu and fruit and your the shakes you suggested and ditching the soy today! Thanks again.

Don't believe everything you read about soy online. Look only to reliable medical/science nutrition sites. As shocking as it may sound, not everything on the internet is true.

Soy is plant based (obviously). Stick to organic if you are concerned about GMO (GMO may not be labeled organic in the US). Silken tofu does make a nice shake.
  • I use Herbalife and it is amazing! I also take in their Aminogen which helps to break down the proteins 250 times more than your body could. I have had NO negative side effects on either of their lines. They have their formula 1 line (soy) protein shakes and their athletic line 24 which have the milk proteins, for example the whey and casein proteins. I feel amazing and their reasonably priced too!
  • Well said bcattoes! Credible sources are crucial!
