Exercise and Weight Gain

I started the 30 Day Shred and have only gained weight since beginning... I did it for a week and took a week off then another week and a week off... (because of work and illness) Now I am doing pilates and the 30 day shred and gained even more weight. My understanding was that it would start to come off after a couple of weeks because of muscle soreness and basically retaining fluids around the muscles for protection. Anyone else have this issue? I have gained 8 lbs! Thanks!

Taking a week off pretty much means you're starting over again each time. Exercise isn't a good way to approach weight loss. Weight loss happens in the kitchen and fitness happens in the gym. 90% of your loss will come from your food intake so don't count on exercising weight off.

Eight pounds seems a little high...but it could be a combo of the exercise and a variety of other things. How did you come to figure out your calorie needs? Do you use a digital food scale and measuring devices for everything you eat?

It could be sodium, exercise, lack of sleep, stress, if you're female then time of month.

Get the above things in line, then be patient. Often weight will drop off all-at-once.

Thanks - I figured that taking the time off was a bad idea but I was putting in 15 hour days at work and couldnt force myself to get up in time to work out. I also seemed to have hit a plateau with weight loss by calorie counting so I decided to add exercise into the mix hoping that would boost me up. Also I am very out of shape and have asthma so I wanted to start working out to feel better over all - and I do by the way  Overall I have cut my caloric intake in half but have not really been watching sodium and carbs, etc. I think I probably need to continue to lower my calories - biggest problem being I LOVE FOOD! I will get there just need to be more consistent it seems.
