Lemon Juice

I keep reading that lemon juice in warm water first thing in the morning is great for weight loss. Any truth to this? Has anyone had success with this trick? I'd love to hear your story.

    It is good for keeping you regular, also getting rid of toxins in your body. I drink it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Not sure about losing weight part.

    Any evidence I've seen on this is purely anecdotal. Any of the sites that advocate for this are not ones I'd consider to be authoritative, as they have clear biases and science appears to be purely optional. That being said, barring any actual long term, blind, monitored studies on this, the jury is out on this.

    Common sense suggests that drinking any kind of warm beverage prior to eating would contribute to you feeling fuller, for a number of physical and physiological reasons. This in turn would result in a lower calorie intake. Fewer calories on a daily basis could help with weight loss.

    * Makes water taste nice
    * Has some vitamin C, which is great
    * No evidence of weight loss
    * No such thing as "getting rid of toxins", "detoxing", "cleansing" etc (in response to poster above, not the OP) - your liver and kidneys do that job just fine

    If you like the taste of it then do it, otherwise the effects are negligible. I love it in hot water with a grating of fresh ginger - wakes me up in morning!

    Lemon juice has a slight diuretic effect, so it could help with water retention, but that isn't the same as long term weight loss.
