Knee Injury

Okay..I know people have probably asked this a million times, but I am going to ask it a million and one. I have an old knee injury and once again I have hurt my knee. Being stupid I started to rearrange the house yesterday and hurt it even more. Now I am worried I won't be able to lose weight. Any suggestions!?

  • Weight loss is mostly diet. So it shouldn't really impact you to much.

Working to strengthen and improve the flexibility of the muscles that support your knee will help you regain a healthy level of activity..

Biking, swimming, walking, elliptical can help you stay active with out putting to much stress on the knee. You just have to experiment and see what aggravates it and what doesn't. Go Slow

Keep off it for a couple days. Ice periodically, do very gentle stretches.

It's not the end of the world and you won't be hurt forever. but it's important to take care of it properly. See a doctor if you have to, get in the water if you can to workout if you can't stand not doing something. Or something else that is low impact. And be mindful of what foods you're eating. When you're feeling better, ease into it. Don't stress your knee again.

It's just that simple. Be smart.

knee injury is something you shouldn't mess around with. you should head to your physical therapist and see what he/she has to say.

I have to agree with this. Go see a therapist if it is bad. As for your original post, I am just getting back in the gym after a 6 week layoff from lifting due to my shoulders.
Like someone else said, weight loss can be achieved through diet, exercise, or both. Just watch your diet and you will be fine.

My bum knee isn't anything that has stopped me from being successful. I just don't do things that make it hurt (running, walking long distances, high impact anything). If it bothers you all the time, go get it looked at.

two weeks ago strained some ligaments in my left knee and this is what my Dr told me to do, along with taking aleve for a week max. Water aerobics, or any water exercise was the only thing he approved for the first week. Better now, get twinges sometimes, but I totally baby it when walking etc.

Take it slow, and just watch your calorie intake while you limit exercise. Good Luck!!

I think weight loss is 90% accomplished in the kitchen...

But, you need to make sure you allow your knee to heal fully. it canb be frustrating while you wait, but it is necessary.

I have a bad knee, I swim. It never hurts in the water and I think it actually is helping it heal. If something hurts it,I don't do it. I had a doctor look at it to make sure it wasn't something that I was worsening by walking on it and such, mine is torn catilage. I can get surgery to fix it, but I am waiting for the right time. good luck, I would get a doctors opinion, just to be safe.

I would go see my doc to get an evaluation of it--you may need some physio or another treatment of some sort. There are common injuries that need addressing, so that you don't do further damage to the joint. I have a friend who wears an elastic knee brace when she runs, for that reason.

I have very bad knees (osteoarthritis)---my right one is worse than my left. I hurt my right knee when I was gardening last spring, Water exercise is the very best thing you can do for it (after a suitable period of recuperation from the injury). My range of motion is significantly improved and I no longer have pain most of the time (unless I overdo it shopping or something). There are supplements you can take to speed healing. One that I have found particularly beneficial is egg shell membrane (you can make your own--there are recipes on the web). I buy mine for convenience. There are herbal anti-inflammatories too like the spice, turmeric and the pineapple plant extract, bromelain (bromelain is particularly helpful for reducing swelling and fibrotic lesions). If you have osteoarthritis, the old standby glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM is often quite useful but it doesn't work for everyone. Good luck!
