Cravings

Anyone have any suggestions on how to beat cravings during your period. The only two things I want to eat during my period is Carbs and sweets.

I rarely get cravings, but when I do I'll drink some tea with a bit of sweetener or suck on a piece of dark chocolate (it lasts longer.) It helps with cravings without adding a ton of calories. But if you're that hungry, eat SOMETHING.

I totally hear you on that. I try to keep healthier dessert options around the house for when I absolutely must have something sweet, like fruit, fro-yo, "Unreal" candy bars, and kashi brownies (one of my favorites!). If you desperately want something with no real nutritional benefits, measure out a serving and have some. I find that if I don't give into my cravings in some way, it just makes me crazy. Try to make room for treats in your calorie allowance when you think you'll be wanting something. But generally, finding lower calorie options that are still delicious usually does the trick for me.

Just remember: one day will not derail your goals. Not even one day a month. Eat what you need and then, get back to it the next day. The harder you are on yourself, the easier it is to fail. I have found that the healthier I eat and the more I exercise, the fewer cravings I have. And you learn to separate what you're eating for purely emotional satisfaction and what you actually need. Stay hydrated and make sure you get plenty of rest.
