Hello, Im new to this website and I think it's great! I think one of my problems with weight is that I'm not really a measuring kind of cook, I tend to just tip a bit in until it looks enough and not think enough about how much I'm actually eating. Can anyone give me rough guidelines on portion sizes for things like rice, wholemeal pasta, porridge and muesli? Thank you!

Get a foodscale for accurate measuring. Pasta is usually 2oz, or one cup cooked. If its boxed, canned, or packaged anyway, than the nutrtion lable will usally tell you how many ounces is in a serving size.0

The way I am going is for meat, chicken etc 3oz for me..as for pasta and rice I usually go 1 cup or serving size on packages and i figure out my calories and fat G per serving suggetions..I up or down that according to my needs for that day.
I'm sure more people will respond and help out..i just do what works for me and I need to keep it simple

The only way to be completely accurate about portion sizes is to measure them (measuring cups or scales). I understand your style. I cook mostly by instinct and rarely by recipe. And, I love to cook and my family and friends enjoy eating the things I cook. All of that said, since I've started trying to get some weight off, I've come to the realization that I simply must measure my portions. So when I'm cooking, I've started measuring more of the ingredients, so I can figure out portions and calories. It's a bit involved, but I've started my own cookbook as a by product of this process so it's getting easier.
Hope this helps.0 -
You have to measure!! After a while you won't need to anymore, but at first you should. It will open your eyes a lot!0
