So I assume squats, push ups, and lunges would be considered strength building even though my heart rate gets up when I do them?

Yes. The HR increase is because these are compund workouts.0

Squats are strength training. Lunges and push-ups,sit-ups are considered calisthenics (look at the activities list)0
