Hi, I am posting for my husband who has recently joined mfp to drop a couple pounds. He is 23 years old, 178 pounds, 5,8 and mfp set his calories to 1590. Today was his first day logging and he says he is still starving. So basically, I am trying to help him figure out what a good number for him. So guys, what at your stats, how much weight have you lost, and how many calories are you eating? Also, my husband delivers coke all week and has his profile set to mildly active. Thanks in advance!

1590 does sound a tad low from what I understand.
Has he found out his TDEE calculations? he will require a bit more calories if he is exercising.0 -
Hi, I'm 5'8" and about 176#. My maintenance is around 2400cal + exercise cals. If he has more than a couple pounds to lose, he could probably start off around 1900cals/day to lose 1#/wk--again, I would eat back the additonal cals burned through exercise. This has worked very well for me!0

Look for a site where he can calculate his base metabolic rate (BMR) and experiment from there.
My BMR is about 2600 calories, but I target 1900 pre-exercise and usually strive to be under by about 500 calories, so today for example I ate about 2400 calories but burned 2800. Never felt hungry or deprived.0 -

I was STARVING the first few days. You need time to adapt--your stomach physically needs to shrink! Give it about a week, if he's still starving, something needs to be changed. But before that--seriously--wait it out a bit.0
