Do I Really Need One>?

I have an el cheapo pedometer. Do I neeeeeeeddd a FitBit? I work retail, so know I get many steps in, and it has the calorie counter, but I dont care about that since I have MFP and I have a Polar Ft4 HRM I use when working out...

So.. do I need to get a fitbit or will my 10 target model be OK :)

You don't NEED any gadgets. If you're happy w/your pedometer and HRM then you're good. I happen to really like my FitBit - but I'd survive without it.

No gadgets here. However, I would like a really nice one!
  • part of me asks, because I see (not just here but in many places) people counting thier steps as excercise.. which is fine, and its a good way to challenge yourself, but I view it as a tool for those who dont neccesairly work on thier feet all day. I work at a retail store and I sit for 1 f ull hour per day.. no more. (30 min lunch and two 15 min breaks)

Perhaps if I got a job that wasnt retail??

I love my fitbit. I feel like it makes it a lot easier to know exactly how many calories to eat because it syncs directly with MFP.

I don't have any gadgets (that I'm willing to admit to) and I have a very active job but I don't count my work activity as exercise. That was figured into my calorie needs when I signed up here, so I don't count it as active. I just try to do something active everyday for at least 30 minutes.

Target has the blue fitbit zip on clearance for $35. It's in the electronic section, not the sports section. Keep looking...it's like they hide it.

I have a Polar FT4.. I only let it count calories and stuff when my heart rate is over 129. I don't pay attention to how much I walk in a day or anything like that..

A pedometer is useful to motivate you to do more. I found that with my fit it linked to MFP I had to do 5000 steps to get me up the sedentary setting and the rest was bonus calories. Therefore a cheap pedometer which works out calories can be used and you can manually add them at the end of the day. This or fitbit are useful if your daily calorie burn is variable, if not- dont bother and just included it in your MFP activity setting.
