Hi Guys, i've managed to lose 2 pounds after 4 weeks (i'm quite small, so 2 pounds is a big deal to me .
I'll be going to Nando's (a well -known Spicy Chicken restaurant here in the UK) on Saturday and wondered how it would effect my weightloss if i had a blowout meal and a couple of glasses of wine.
When i say "blowout", i'm talking about maybe having my usual.....which is1/2 a spicy Roast chicken (the chicken portions they serve are quite small), a small portion of spicy rice, small fries (or probably share my partners fries) and a little Coleslaw. Plus the wine.
I normally do 40 min Treadmill workouts (jogging/fast walking - 250ish cals burned) at least 5 times a week on 1500 cals a day. So just wanted to know, will i be OK to have that Meal on Saturday without it effecting my weightloss? (The Nando's Meal will probably be 1500 cals alone btw!).

Call it a refeed day (i.e. eating at maintenance). Don't punish yourself by not eating or over-exercising the next day, just have a nice time, log it and get back on it Sunday.
Enjoy your meal.0 -
To gain that two pounds back you would have to eat 7000 calories over your TDEE. One meal is not going to do that. You may find that it goes up slightly the day after with water retention as restaurant food can be high in salt.
By the way, Nandos is not as bad as you think. I eat there on occasions. They list their calorie content on their website, have a look. You may be able to fit it in your daily allowance, or do an extra workout to compensate.0 -
You should be fine... unless you are planning to consume an extra 3,500 cals which would equate to a pound added...0

I had a look for you:
1/2 chicken - 352
Chips 371
Rice - 273
Coleslaw (1/2 portion) - 136
Average glass of wine (175ml) - 125
So with two glasses of wine you are looking at 1382 for a night out. Trust me you won't gain your 2lb back from that.0 -
Log it and forget it. It's gonna be OK.
Don't try to "work" it off the next day either. You won't gain it back by one night of enjoy some good food. As long as it doesn't become a nightly habit....LOL0 -
Enjoy and move on :-)
My experience is: if I am really good for some time, and have a "blowout meal" as you call it, the next day I weigh less ;-)0 -
Just enjoy yourself!0

The carb / sodium content may cause an increase in the scale the next day or so due to water retention (as opposed to actual fat gain which relies on being in a caloric surplus.)
Don't freak out over this as it will dissipate after a few days.
Enjoy!0 -
Cheers Guys,...yep will enjoy every scrap! Lol
To lauren3101.....thanks for the Nando's cals .
Chips (Fries) are more cals than the Chicken??? Wow.
Those portions are so small too!
Oh well.0 -
Don't stress about it, eat and enjoy. Exercise a little more the next day if it makes you feel better about it. But as long as you don't have a "blowout" meal every day, you'll be fine.0

Fraid so. I get the chicken breast - you get two for 309 cals.0 -
When I go to Nando's, I always have the Butterfly chicken (309), Fries (371) and Corn on the Cob (69), which only comes to a total of 749, and I find the portion is HUGE, I'm always stuffed afterwards. That means you could have probably a couple more of those glasses of wine Just don't be worried by a water weight gain the day after, alcohol and salt retain a lot of water!!
Nando is really a great place for the 'blowout' meal, because it tastes like it's bad, but chicken is really amazing, so calorie-wise, couldn't be better0 -

You're stuffed on that??? Lol
I guess we all have different sized appetites.
When i was younger, me and my Sister (who always had a small appetite) went to the same school......and at lunchtimes i'd always nick her food off her plate.
Still do that now to my partner, when we go to Nando's.
p.s Will probably have corn on the cob too,...now i know it's only 69 cals.0 -
I have a crazy meal once a week where I just pig out and eat whatever I want (for one meal). I usually have a small breakfast and lunch in preparation, and I probably eat somewhere between 1-2k cals for the cheat meal. It hasn't affected my weight loss negatively.0
