Has anyone done this (doppelganger diaries)

Hello, just interested to see if anyone has found a fitness pal on here and both done EXACTLY the same in terms of food and exercise. I think it would be an interesting experiment.
However I don't think it would be practical as I doubt you'd find two people who would be willing or able to eat exactly the same things as tastes and choices of foods are very personal.
You could do it with two people at the same level (just starting out), or perhaps it could be a 'coaching' thing, where someone who has had success and a new person copies everything they do!
I don't want to do it, just wanting to put it out there as something interesting? to think about

No. Unless they have the same exact body composition, genetics, RMR, BMR, etc.. it wouldn't have the same effect on both.
That's exactly why my diary is closed. I don't want someone to look at it and go "Oh, dude lost 153 lbs, I'll just eat what he did... do the same workouts, and I'll lose too."0 -
Me and my partner have done this together and being in the same house it tends to mean we eat pretty much the same foods... just not always at the same time.
We have both had success (me slightly more, but I am able to do more exercise so I think this has also been a contributing factor).0 -

Yeah but it might be interesting, even if they got different results. Perhaps I'm odd.0 -

I'm doing the same with my partner. Although I am eating less than him because , I don't want to be eating the same amounts as a man, even though we are eating the same foods. He's not using this site though.0 -
As someone pointed out, two people living in the same house would have similar food choices. My husband has lost 40 pounds without effort, just by eating what do.0

As we are both retired, it does not make sense for both my wife and myself to be cooking separate dishes/meals. Therefore we pretty much eat the same things at the same time and have been doing so for a long time. We gained a lot of weight together and now have lost a lot of weight together. We both now exercise at the same time, though not the same exercises, I run she does callisthenics. When I go to the gym she goes too. Because I am 6' 2" and she is 5' 4" and I was a lot heavier I have lost a bit more weight than she has, however between us we have lost over 100lbs since last September. We may have different metabolic rates because we do not lose weight in synchronicity but the end result is that we are both losing weight at a sustainable rate. Does this answer your question?0

You've done very well.
I was just wondering - if, say, you knew someone fit, like a personal trainer. Could you 'train' someone by logging on here and just getting them to copy everything you do?0 -

If an unfit 5'2 female started just copying what a 6'3" male trainer was doing, the numbers would be off. For that matter, if an unfit 5'2" female started just copying what a 5'2" fit female trainer was doing, it still wouldn't work. Why copy if the results aren't going to benefit you?
I understand the concept, but it just doesn't work that way.
Look at it like this. Take two stacks of ingredients that should make a cake. In one stack, mix it properly and bake it. The other just dump the ingredients into the pan, lower the temp on the oven by 50 degrees, and throw it in the oven What comes out of the oven is one cake and one pile of gloop.
It's not that they used the wrong ingredients, just that not everyone is built the same way.0 -
oh, ok then.0
