Fiber?

I've been eating a plant based whole food diet (about 97% vegan) for almost a week (not long, I know!) and I already feel better, my fat intake has gone way down, my protein intake is high, but my fiber is waaaaay high. As a result, I've become bloated and a tad gassy (ew, I know!).

Will this go away as my body gets used to it, or should I work on lowering my fiber? Any tips on how do that without eating junk?

According to you diary, you are not actually tracking fiber. Without knowing your actual level, it is hard to give sound advice.

It should go away or at least lessen after a while.. A daily probiotic can make a big difference (or at least it did for me). I've eaten high fiber for many years, but some foods such as cabbage would still make me gassy. But since I started a daily probiotic, it's rarely a problem. Which is good because I am addicted to brussel sprouts.

Wow 69g of fiber! That would definitley do it! It is recommended no more than 50g per day to keep things moving smoothly. Also, too much fiber can actually keep your body from absorbing all the nutrients it needs.

I run in to the same problem! I get too much fiber. I drink ginger tea with lemon twice a day, and that helps with promoting a healthy digestive track. Plus, LOTS OF WATER!! That is the absolute best way to help. You could try that, but really, only lowering your fiber intake will help. Try and find the foods that provide the most fiber and maybe find a replacement, or just moderate them a little more. I'm not trying to ruin any good eating habits though, just making a suggestion.

I'm going to try the probiotic thing. I also love brussel sprouts! Thanks!

That's really strange because I can see fiber on my iPhone, but you're right it doesn't come up on here. I seem to be over by about 12-25 grams per day.

By clicking on your printable nutrition report (pro tip, for the folks who don't know!) I was able to see that you've been eating 50-60g of fiber per day for the past week. I don't think you're overdoing it. I think your body will thank you for it in the long run. If you like in general the way you feel, but I personally would suggest adding fermented things like kimchi, kefir, yogurt with live cultures, saurkraut... things like that. They can help digest all that roughage you're eating. You could also juice some of your fruits and vegetables instead of eating them, that would cut down on the fiber, but you'd still get all the nutrients and protein and stuff.

I make everything. Used the recipe builder! In the smoothie is: vegan shakeology, spinach, kale, chia seeds, berries and soy milk

the chili: tomato sauce chili base (where the high sodium came from- won't be using that one again), beans, veggies and brown rice

I've never tried ginger tea, I just drink brewed green tea all day long. I will try it out!

awesome. just wanted to make sure.

high-fiber is a reality when it comes to eating vegan. there was a point i was getting 90g a day. that was NOT going well for me. haha

I think staying around 60 will be fine if you can do the fermented foods and probiotic thing.
