Ok I dont know if i'm posting this in the right section but either way i would really appreciate some advice..

I'm not naiive i know to run a 10k takes months of training and progress but my sister came to me yesterday saying one of the local charity groups in our area were looking for people to take part..anyway enough of that...she suggested it can just be the 10k walk but i'm wondering with the time that is in it could possible train enough to jog half or is it too late at this stage?

I have jogged before i trained a good bit last year until i discovered carido alone was getting me nowhere as i was only loosing muscle so guess im a bit nervous to get back in the game, if i continued my kickboxing fitness with julian michaels would this strength me enough for the marathon?

Advice appreciated! :D

You may not be able to run the whole thing but it's totally doable especially doing run/walk intervals.

You'd be amazed what you can do in a few weeks. A 10k is a little over 6 miles, right? I don't know what you can currently run, but I think if you train hard you could definitely jog at least half of it! Cardio alone isn't great, but if you're doing kickboxing I think you'll stay strong and keep your muscle mass, and of course your muscles will help you run.

In short: it can't hurt to try.

Yes, there are some 6-week 10k training plans out there.

You can do the Jillian Michaels workouts on non-running days--though a good rule of thumb is at least one rest day each week.

Since you jogged before, there's a good chance you could be ready in six weeks. I hadn't run all winter but went for a 3 mile run (just under 5k) last Saturday and besides the fact that I was slower than last year and a bit sore the next couple days, it went really well. Give it a try and see how you do!

I would suggest keeping up with some of your strength training too - it can only help with the stability, etc. If you're worried about muscle loss, make sure you're eating enough and get loads of protein in your diet.

^Thanks for the comments will definitely try and incorporate more protein in my diet while i'm doing this, and hopefully stick with it afterwards. :)
