I've been avoiding joining this site for months because I knew it would hold me accountable for a lot of bad decisions I've made (food ones at least).
The truth is this site helps cater to a certain indulgence - and this is the obsession of talking about food and fitness.
When this is displayed negatively, it means I over eat, constantly complain about the weight I've gained and get bitter and cynical about my choices which leads me straight to the fridge and away from the mirror. As a result, I've had a very unhealthy relationship with food (abusing it) and an even worse relationship with myself.
When this is displayed positively, it means an upbeat, optimistic perspective about healthy delicious meals and workouts that test the strength of your character as much as your muscles. It means throwing out that word 'diet' that has short term implications, and adopting something you can sustain through thick and thin (no pun intended).
Within one month of joining MFP, I can already tell that this community - all sharing vulnerabilities and successes is one of the most motivating things I've encountered. Now I can give my friends a break from listening to my obsession about how much water I've had to drink and how many calories I burned during 30 day shred.
So thanks for talking and listening and pushing.
Looking forward to sharing my own successes.
