Using weights for the FIRST TIME.

Hi!

Can anyone give me some advice?
I've been working on my cardio, as I'm pretty unfit, and watching my calorie intake. However, I also want to tone up my arms, belly, hips and chunky thighs... I have never used weights before, where is a good place to start? Any particular sets/reps/ exercises that work well for beginners?
In the gym, we have some weight lifting machines, one that you pull on what looks like a coat-hanger, which pulls the weight whilst sitting down, a shoulder press and a pec dec machine... And dumbells and hefty weights. There are also rowing machines, treadmills, the stepping machines and a bike, and then the ball things that look like space hoppers...

I'm not the strongest person in the world, but as an idea... I can lift a 25kg dog off the floor onto a 1.5m table, carefully and gently.

I am 5ft 4 and weigh 64ish kg (141lb)

Any help would be appreciated! xx
