Best foods to eat before and after a workout?

Hi there, so I'm just starting to get into the exercise routine and was wondering if there are certain foods I should eat before and after to help promote weight loss?

    nothing particular- other than eating protein after a workout involving weight training- helps the muscles :)

    I eat 1/2 cup of plain oatmeal and 5 egg whites before the gym , after 3 rice cakes, 1 tbl of almond butter 1/2 apple and a protein shake.

    I usually workout in a fasted state but if i do eat, it'll be a handful of mixed nuts. Afterward I generally limit pwo intake to a scoop a whey protein. Of course, it depends on what type of workout I'm doing. If it's strictly resistance training, I do the above. A more metabolic-focused workout i.e. tabatas, bb/DB complexes, etc., I get nauseous if I eat anything before and typically just use the next meal as my pwo nutrition.
