So me and my boy are going out to dinner tonight to red robin..i know very romatic but i got to pick hehe. Any who Im going through there menu...I am going to be going over my calories by 584. Should I stress over this or just let it go since its a special occasion? even though I did loose control over the weekend? I just want to be able to enjoy tonight and not worry about what im eating but I dont want to waste my hardwork. And we're going to be spending the day together tomorrow also so im sure we'll be getting lunch somewhere. Im thinking I should just enjoy myself and then after tomorrow get back to being strict and NOT loose control again this weekend. What do you guys think? I guess Im hoping to hear "oohh yah thats fine enjoy yourself dont worry about it" lol but I know that Maybe I should be worrying about it...

    LOL!

Well, how about this: can you do some extra cardio? Or maybe walk a couple miles or whatever?
  • you shouldnt look at this often but your mfp number has a defecit built in, for most its about 450 calories. So have a veggie burger and you'll be right on.

Girl, there is no way you'll go over there. I used to eat HALF a burger there - when I used to eat a lot!!! There's no way I could finish HALF of one of their burgers. You eat half...DON'T eat their fries, DON'T eat their onion rings. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's going to take a long time to get back on track if you keep making compromises. Get the California burger (chicken with swiss cheese, I believe it has bacon, guacamole, and some other stuff). Eat half and maybe you can get a side salad.

Or make healthy choices. A non cream based soup and a salad, or get my usual: Salmon burger with no mayo, and isntead of fries on the side a salad with balsamic vinegarette. Its not too high and its really delicious and doesnt leave you feeling heavy and bloated.

Split your burger in half! take the rest home. It is plenty for you to have half of a burger or a sandwich!
  • i would pick what i was going to eat, for example the Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Wrap (380 calories) and exercise that amount of calories. that way, you can eat without any worry of going over, since you've already burned that amount :)

The majority of the burgers at Red Robin are 1000+ calories. I went there a week ago and split a burger and salad with my friend. I was able to enjoy the food I wanted to eat and I didn't feel so guilty about having a few extra calories. They do have a nutrition menu if you are really concerned with the amount of calories you will be eating and I know there are many items that aren't so bad. Enjoy :)

Think about it this way. If your goal is set at 1lb per week than MFP has already reduced your daily by 500 to reach that goal. So by gong over today you are ruining your progress for this week. I guess the question is can you live with that? Is it worth it? In my opinon for a special night out, an extra 500 calories isn't that bad as long as you don't let it become a habit and get back on track afterwards.

Well, since you piced the place I'm guessin you have an idea what you want to eat. Eat it!! Maybe you can not eat the whole burger, or not the whole side. If the burger is what you like and don't care about the fried - you can go the salad route. If its the whole thing - go for it. Otherwise, I say pick a different restaurant.

We go there a lot (3 kids...) so this is what i always get (keep in mind i am a vegan (no meat, no dairy, no eggs, etc)

I get the Garden Burger w/out dressing... that drops it from a 538 cal burger to a 385 cal burger. Sometimes, I won't eat the bun... that drops the calorie count to 145!! WITH 13 grams protein and 8 grams fiber!!

For my side, I get the side salad... basically lettuce, tomatoes, tortilla strips... without dressing (the tomatoes add enough juice for me) and that is 57 calories.

I drink water (b/c soda is so bad for you and I like it!)

So there you have it... possible a 202 or 442 calorie meal!!! How does that sound?? If all else fails - go running when you get back!! :o)
    Good luck and have fun!!

When I go out, and I know it is going to be a lot of calories, I have them bring a box out right away. I actually count out the fries (I know, nerd) and put half of the whole meal away before taking my first bite. I don't want to look at it. If it is on my plate, I will eat it! Enjoy your evening out :-D

my 2 cents: don't go there. is it worth it in the long run? no. its crap food you don't need to be eating.

if you do go i say get a veggie burger. get the regular fries, not the garlic parm ones. eat half the order of fries & the veggie burger. peep their nutritional builder thingy & you can make a good choice if you do go there.

i think your setting yourself up for a bad outcome though. i know you'll cave in & get something your going to regret later.

we all need a lil tough love from time to time. i know how bad you wanted to meet your birthday goal & i don't see red robin helping you.

Yeah you have a lot of good options, and I would only add exercise before and/or afterwards (especially after, even if it's a walk for a short while, you'll feel better after "loading yourself up", trust me on this ) and you'll be fine....drink water or hot/cold tea w/lemon instead of pop and you'll be gold.....

i see you checked out the daily plate... the Red Robin menu HAS nutritional information... if you select the item you are looking at, and choose 'customize' it will allow you to see what effect any changes you make to the menu item will have on the calorie information... it is really quite cool... i love it!
  • You should enjoy yourself tonight, but if your worried Red Robin has an awesome Turkey Burger!!!!!!

Then it's your choice to eat those fries. We all make choices and have to live with them. I personally would exercise those 500+ extra calories off before I ate them. I have come to far and worked too hard to let something mess it up. If I really want something I work my butt off for it, literally

It is a lot less stressful if you already know you are going to be over and just mentally plan for it and enjoy it. One day going over 500 calories is pretty small if you look at it over a couple months.

Ultimately we have to decide if it's worth looking back at this event in your life and thinking "boy I sure am glad we went to Red Robin that night for a burger" or "Boy, I sure am glad we were able to celebrate that special time together". Notice how one statement focuses on the FOOD and the other on the OCCASION. I think developing a healthy attitude towards food involves disassociating "special occasion" from "overeat and indulge". It is something I struggle with myself so I am not trying to condescend here, just sharing my thoughts on a familiar mental battle.

I am not saying you shouldn't indulge, nor am I saying you should not go to Red Robin tonight, but you have a choice on whether Red Robin burgers are worth it tonight or not.
