Carbs really do matter?

I'm a career dieter and have been one since I was ten years old. There's always a new weight loss fad out there, so over the years I've always reduced my calories and exercised to drop the pounds. I've never been concerned with carbs, protein, fat or sugar. I would count my calories and not go over that number, even if it meant I only ate one meal a day and that meal was a hunk of cake and ice cream.

Over the last fours years, calorie counting and exercising is not working like it use to. I have to workout like cazy and nearly starve myself to lose weight. I keep hearing a lot about carbs and now I'm ready to try cutting my carbs, because what I'm doing is not working. Reviewing my MFP chart, I realize I take in a large amount of carbs! Normally, over 50%, which I don't really know exactly what that means.

I was recently told, it's as if I'm loading up on carbs, just to exercise. Need some help and insight, please :-)
