Heart Rate Monitor

What options should I be looking for when researching heart rate monitors? Which brand/style/etc do you recommend for weight loss results?

Depends what you want to use it for.

Anything from Garmin, Suunto and Polar will be good, just find the one with the options/features you want.

Look for one specific to your needs. Some are so basic they strictly monitor your heartrate. I have a Polar brand (it's older and basic but I love it) it shows my heartrate, calories burned, my zone, and such. At the end it shows my summary of how long I worked out, how long I was in zone, avg hr, max hr and calories burned. I highly recommend Polar but they are a little more pricey. I've had mine 5+years and it's still going just as strong as the day I bought it!

  • I use the Polar FT7. I've used it daily for almost three years now and love it. It stores 99 workouts, tells you your weekly calorie burn, how long you were in the fat burning and fitness zones while working out. It's also a small watch and the chest strap is comfortable and doesn't move around during workouts.
