So this guy went and researched all the compounds the human body gets from food and bought them all in powder form. He mixed them in the right proportions and now lives almost entirely on his creation, which he charmingly calls soylent (but no people)

"I hypothesized that the body doesn't need food itself, merely the chemicals and elements it contains. So, I resolved to embark on an experiment. What if I consumed only the raw ingredients the body uses for energy? Would I be healthier or do we need all the other stuff that's in traditional food? If it does work, what would it feel like to have a perfectly balanced diet? I just want to be in good health and spend as little time and money on food as possible.

I haven't eaten a bite of food in 30 days, and it's changed my life."

I dunno... sometimes I wouldn't mind not having to bother choosing what to eat unless I was really eating something special. However, given how much I crave food on a regular basis, I can't imagine lasting very long. :drinker:

Food is one of the few pure life pleasures.

I am sticking to eating it in a more traditional form :drinker:

You know, since he is spending so much less time eating, he probably has a lot for time to clean the stove. So he should get on that (and I'm assuming he's single because...well...it seems pretty obvious LOL).

This thread has been bombed and will go south.

I do find it incredibly gutsy or stupid to try that experiment at home. Microgram quantities of selenium? Organic or metallic?
The guy will be an interesting medical case in about a year.

There are products out there that basically provide most nutrient needs in a prepackaged form. Wonder why he didn't go that route?
Oh, yeah, he won't get the media exposure and 5 minutes of fame.
