reached my goal, decided 6 more lbs, calories decreased?

I had a 35 lb goal. I reached that last week after eating 1460 calories for a few months to lose .5lb a week ( i started at 1200 calories). I re-adjusted my profile settings to lose another 6lbs and to remain at .5lb a week yet the new daily calorie level is 1430.

Any thoughts as to why I have to eat 30 calories less to achieve the the same rate of weight loss?

If you weigh less it takes less food to nourish your body.

It's because you weigh less. Thus, you burn fewer Calories during the regular course of your day.

  • Also when you loose weight your body doesn't like change.. therefore your metabolism will slow down... yaay! I know we love this!! But our body is all about maintaning the state it is in. Therefore maintenance is KEY! You have to make it the new norm! Since your body weight is figured into your calorie needs/burn you'll probably need to decrease them a little.... BUT if you continue seeing a difference at the calorie range that you are at now then I wouldn't adjust until you hit a plateau... because more food the better(the good kind of course) and if you are exercising you need to make sure that you have enough fuel to burn! :)

It's taking a deficit from your daily calorie burn.

Now that you are smaller, your daily calorie burn will be smaller, so your burn less 250 calories will be smaller.

I've found the best way to deal with MFP docking you 30 kCal for nearing your goal is simply to add a walk around the block and a few flights of stairs to your routine. You can then just keep eating like you were eating. As you said "maintenance is KEY" and eventually a little more activity will make the difference between staying healthy and backsliding.

It's going to make that adjustment automatically, but if you're currently losing at your desired pace at 1460 calories I see no reason to change your intake. Just set your intake goals manually.

As others have said, the less you weigh, the less calories you require.
