Im going to the cardiologist the week after easter. Ive had an irregular heartbeat my whole life, but recently it has gotten so bad i can barely function. after speaking with a few doctors-we suspect i have afib. anyone who has it- how quick was your diagnosis? I have good days and bad and was concerned they may not find anything on a good day.

also-how has it affected your workouts? I know on a bad day i can barely walk my dogs, but moderate days i can push through pretty easily.

just curious-my mom has tachycardial arrhythmia and my grandpa has afib. so any strange heartbeats are an immediate concern in my family (great grandpa had a heart attack at 34, papaw had one at 36-mom was hospitalized for heart problems at 39.) im only 22-but id really like NOT following the family tradition!

Id just like to hear from someone who exercises that i wont be doomed to mall walking if this is, indeed, afib!

    Magical Leople,

It's been 7 months since you posted your query about AFib. Have you gotten your diagnosis?

I've felt it for a long time, but it didn't last long enough for me to get to the doctor. So they never heard anything and assumed I was having panic attacks. I believed them and ignored it until years later. I was at the doctor's office when it happened and she sent me for an EKG and they diagnosed me immediately.

As it's gotten worse, I've gone from just blood pressure medicine (to keep it relaxed) to having a TIA and being put on Warfarin. Then they put me on propaphenone to control it. And increased the dose when the old level wasn't enough. When the highest allowable dose wasn't good enough, I had flutter ablation.

My rhythm specialist wasn't convinced I had flutter, but I was because it's different from AFib (I have both) but he was willing to do the flutter ablation. And it helped immensely. Now the old level of propathenone controls my AFib for the most part.

I was surfing the web for other people with arrhythmia because my heart is being strange recently (going down to the 60's then up to the 80's and back and forth. And I've been very tired. I was wondering if anyone else said anything about that, but haven't found it. Guess I'll call my cardiologist.

Hope you are doing well and have your AFib under control.

    Best wishes,
    Paula
